My sons class didnt have a class mother....I said I would do it :confused3 But have no clue what I will be doing. Can someone explained what i will be doing? It is for a kindergarden class.. TIA ( I hope i dont sound to stupid :rotfl2: )

As class mother, I usually have to contact the parent who is lead for each holilday party. Some class mothers are actually in charge of each holiday party. (ugh)

I have also phoned parents to try to get additional donations for the class for specific projects.

I am calss mom for my daughter's Kindergarten Class.
I just had a meeting with the tecaher today about it actually.

We go on all the field trips if possible.

We coordinate with the other parents for the class parties..either a monetary donation or bringing stuff in-my co-class Mom who has older kids says usually people would rather just give money, so I am writing a note asking for a voluntary donation of $5 per child to cover all the class parties for the year.

We also have to come and help on the party days.

We'll also coordinate a holiday and end of year gift, and that's about it.

I have the same exact responsiblities for my DD Kindergarten class.

Also, when there are snow days, the teacher will call the lead room mother; and she will call the other 2 room mothers and we each call the parents of the children to know that there is no school for the day.

Does anyone else think that the title "Class Mother" should be changed to "class parent"? There are lots of dads that are available during the day time. My DH has been on many school trips and the kids (and teachers) love hiim because he's such a big kid himself (you know how silly men can act :flower: ) I just always found the title "class mother" to be kind of insulting to dads. Sorry to be off topic. Just a pet peeve of mine.

The Sept. issue of Family Fun mag. had an article on Secrets of Successful Room Parents. It had a lot of good ideas. It may even be online.

DH and I are our 5th Grade DD's class parents. We have 3 class parties throughout the year that we coordinate. We just break the class list into 3 parts (Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day), and call each parent for one of them, asking them to bring in a snack or paper goods for that particular party. We help out for the StoryBook Parade (Halloween), by helping the kids get into their costumes. We stay in the classroom for the party, and help out. We will usually plan something for the end of the year as well. We go on the field trips too. We have done this for both our kids, although DS is in Middle school now, so that has ended for him. Now we just chaperone his dances, starting this week.
Oh, and they are called class parents at our school, we always get a certificate at the end of the year for "class mom and dad". The teachers like having a man around...mainly to check out the boys bathroom and make sure no one is in there fooling around on field trips! :)

Our room parents plan a class get together a couple times during the year. They are usually a pizza party at school and sledding in the winter or something along those lines. They collect money for a Christmas present for the teacher. That is pretty much it unless you are the 6th grade room parent, then you have to plan the big fundraiser pancake breakfast for the kids that go on a week long camping trip.

I do this for my dd's class.

One thing I HIGHLY recommend is that you send a form to school (with teacher's OK) and introduce yourself to the other parents, and ask them to send it back with their email address. If they don't send it in, get their phone numbers and make a nice pleasant call and ask them for it. It's SO worth it to have every possible email addy of the other parents!!

With over 90% participation, it is much easier to coordinate things if you just have to send out an email!! (For the couple of kids whose parents don't have email I print out the email and send it home with them).

Hiya! I was the Class Mom for my DD12 Kinder class as well. I was basically a helper to the teacher - I would help get the kids' papers in order to go home with, or help with arts and crafts, one time I had to take Holiday stencils and mark them on paper so the children could cut them out. Many times I would help out with class parties, just basically whatever the teacher needed me for - I made tons of copies of worksheets too LOL!! I had a ball! It was also nice as my DD moved up in grades, I was known to the staff so I always was called in to help or go on trips since the children knew me. Good Luck

Oh no!! I didn't realize what a class mother was, and I put my name down. I thought it meant helping out in class! That I can cope with, but I am little social phobic, if that's the right expression and the thought of having to call up other parents and talk is making me very nervous, and a little mortified! I could not coordiante at all, as it would take me several days to get the courage to talk to anyone! I am just hopeles with other parents, I try really hard, but my shrinking violet personality just pops on out! Kids I can cope with, bit more on my level I think!!
