Class C Layout Preferences

Since we are starting to look for a nice Class C, I thought i'd ask the experts here what they prefer and why. Do you like the kitchen in the back? bedroom in the back? entertainment center or sleeping area over the driver area? how big is too big in a C or how small is too small, in footage? separate toilet/shower areas? ....and anything else you can think of that you prefer to have in your C and why. If you were buying all over again or if you ever upgrade, what will you add or do away with? thanks everyone!

29' Four Winds (1996). Bedroom in back, split bathroom, L-shaped kitchen and half-dinette (1 sofa bed & 1 swivel chair) with 1 more swivel chair on the side.

No entertainment center and currently DD uses the bunk. That is probably gonna change because she's gotten much taller in the year and a half we've owned our RV. Looked at TTs earlier this year with 2 bedrooms (bunkroom for DD) but would need a tow vehicle and that's probably not in the cards this year after all.

Would only change the shower layout - would prefer a "corner" shower with a glass door. The rest of it is really enjoyable. Admittedly, a few extra feet would probably be nice too, but not an absolute necessity.

Thanks! it IS a funny picture for sure! That is Nemo on the left and Ashlea on the right. The cat was a stray that i took in and she likes to hang out with my cocker spaniel, who is kind of old but doesn't really mind. I've since taken in another stray and also have a golden retriever! a real zoo here!

Don't get me started on layout (oops, you already did!). I *love* the layout of mine, but it took forever to find.
*I have a rear queen walkaround bed. How anyone over 5' tall can sleep in those rear "corner" beds is beyond me!
*I have a corner shower seperate from the toilet/sink room. Absolute necessity! I'm tall and fat (although not too proud of that), and would not have fit in many of the showers that are part of the bathroom. (Plus I store "stuff" in the shower on the way down, bad me.)
*I have the L shaped kitchen counter, which I love.
*The only thing I couldn't find was one with either a nice padded easy chair or (preferably) a recliner. I have dinette across from couch, which is okay, except when my back is killing me. Couch folds down into quite comfy bed, even for tall people. Dinette folds down into short bed for children or more 5 footers!
*Mine was too old to have the option of an overhead entertainment center, but I do think that would be pretty cool if you didn't need the bed space. DS likes that space to be *his*, he can sleep there and spread all his stuff out!
*Slides are super nice, but add to the price greatly. I bought a used C from the last year before slides, and got it for a great price due to that "lack".

Best advice: go look at as many as possible in person. The more amenities typically, the longer the length, so it's a tradeoff. Best advice I got was to "shake" everything (ie check for quality of fit and finish in workmanship within the mh). Some are *very* cheaply made, others aren't.

We go to as many RV shows as we can. We really enjoy going to them and looking at all the different RVs.

I guess it really depends what you need. We need the bunk over the cab for DS. We really liked the layouts of the Gulf Streams. They have a TV on the side of the bunk so it is up there out of the way and you have the full bunk. They seem to be very high quality too.

You can go on their web sites and look at their floor plans and get your own ideas, then hit the RV shows or the RV dealers.

Thanks everyone! getting some great ideas. I know, for one, i like the bedroom in the back but then i saw one with the kitchen in the back and liked that type too. The dual bathroom is nice too. One has a shower and the other side is the sink and toilet so no one person is taking up the whole thing at one time. We are RENTING one in sept. to the big RV show in Hershey, PA. Supposedly, there are 26 football fields of RVs? holy cow! I saw the unit that we're renting and although it has "dinette" as a feature, i cannot see it in the picures at all. Do couches turn into tables? LOL!

I think they can! They have a new type dinette that is in a semi circle around the table and you just table the table legs out of the floor and you have a couch!

We have gone to Harrisburg for several years now. They moved it to Hershey last year. We stayed at the Hershey Highmeadow Campground and rode the bus back and forth to the show. We were lucky enought to get a campsite for next year too!

You can dry camp for free right across from the show. It looked like a nice area.

We take DS and DD and they do the park and we do the show. I read somewhere that the re did the factory tour too!

I always bring a nice heavy bag with shoulder straps to put all the books in. Then you take home and look at them in the winter when you can't camp.

I am sure you will have lots of fun! We always do! It is cheap entertainment.

Is the dry camp area first come/first serve? is it too late for a regular camp site? I know nothing about this!

DONNA please stop sending that pa snow to mass.lol when you look at your new rv keep in mind sleeping,bath,shower.how private , how much room when everything is setup for sleeping because what might work for a weekend might not work for a week or two.how many people will be in this rv?a kitchen in the rear might not be the hot setup the last one i drove made a lot of noise.rear queen bed is just wonderful like being at home maybe better.storage inside and out is a must.with a slideout you can get a little shorter and still have a lot of room. most of all remember you still drive on roads with bumps and things will come loose so the better it's made the less this will happen.are you looking new or used? that could be a whole new post.

you have a good point with the kitchen rattling in the back. i really DO want that bedroom back there. less to rattle, lol.
We are looking used for sure. We looked at new, out of our price range. DH is retiring (age 52) on june 30th. We won't be getting one this year, but hope to purchase in the early 07 and use for next year. It will take me THAT long to find one i like and in our price range. Looking at 2001-2004 years. Who does Consumer Reports rate the best?
btw, there will only be 3 in this most of the time. me, dh and son age 11. Older son is still away at school.
