Just as with the music industry, the cosmetic industry has been caught fixing their prices too high. There were advertisements for "sales" on the cosmetics that were nonexistent.

If you purchased products between 1994 and 2003 you can register for approximately $25 worth of free makeup. I heard about it on the local news.

This is really interesting, but are you sure it's real? I haven't heard about it before. Just curious!

Hi Manda,

Thanks for responding.

It's real. Here's some more information from my one of my local news stations. It's dated March 10th so it just came about.

Result of Class-Action Lawsuit

Settlements have been reached in lawsuits accusing costmetics manufacturers and retailers of conspiring to keep prices high. If a judge approves the settement, $175 million worth of name-brand cosmetics will be given away at department store counters. Customers can request an item valued between $18 and $25. To qualify, you must have purchased a cosmetic on the made or sold by the defendants from May 29, 1994 and July 16, 2003. Click on the link below for more information.

Thanks! I got a check from the class action suit against the cd industry so I now know these things are for real!

The suit is definitely real. But your news station is a bit late to the game. The suit is at least 4 months old. But i never get into these suits. For 1 thing i don't need any more makeup. Second, while we get free makeup, which won't cost the companies anything to give away. The lawyers who thought up the stupid suit will be walking away with real cash in the thousands of dollars. So guess who winds up being the real winner? And of course, the makeup prices haven't really dropped any lower. Have they?

You're welcome Manda and TC. I had a check from the music industry too. It was a nice little something for all the CD's I've bought that were over priced.

Same with the cosmetics. And I always need cosmetics so it's nice to have that as well.

As for the suit effecting the overall prices in the long run, I can't determine their prices. But in the future if it's not rectified, I won't be purchasing their products again.

Thanks for the info, annemariec. I saw the promo for this news piece but did not see it last night.

I don't think it matters who profits, it's already done. The people who did this are not "outed" and they have been slapped on the hand. If the public benefits from it, at least they can choose whether or not to purchase from those named in this suit. If they don't, then the the cosmetic manufacturers will lose in the long run.
