I know that the Fantasmic Dinner Package at Mama Melrose used to be a fixed price for three courses. But, I understand that now you order ala carte for the FDP. I'm confused though - what exactly are you required to order? Is everyone still supposed to order one item of each? Or, could we just order entrees, and it still count? Could we in theory order the cheapest item off each section, and it still count?

Important note: we are probably paying out of pocket - not using the dining plan (I know the dining plan gives you app, entree, dessert).

I've been looking for details on this for 45 minutes, and nowhere seems to explain it very clearly...

I believe that the FDP is a fixed price meal that includes appetizer, entree and dessert. That was the impression I got when I booked our reservation at Mama Melrose over the phone last week. We are on the regular dining plan, but she informed me we will get an appetizer this meal because it is part of the package.

Yes you pay a set price, then you get one appetizer, one entree, one dessert, and one non-alcoholic drink. You order off the regular menu.

The above is all true:
You pay a set price (around 35 dollars/pp) for the package.
It includes any appetizer on the menu (except appetizer for two, which would have to be shared with another member of your party (calamari and antipasto are the apps for 2), any entree from the menu, any dessert from the menu, and one non-alcoholic drink.
After dinner you get a ticket for your entire party to have reserved seating at the Fantasmic show.mama's is really the best choice from all 3 so enjoy!

The fantasmic package is in the system for a certain price (don't know at MM, but at HBD it was around $55/adult). For that price, you can choose an app, an entree and a dessert from the regular menu. If you order less than that, you will still get rung up as the Fantasmic package, so in essence paying more $ for less. For example, my ticket didn't have the price of the app, entree, dessert, it had one"Fantasmic!" price. HTH!

We just did the FDP there 2 weeks ago, and to our surprise, the Calamari for 2 was counted as only one appetizer! So we split that and a Cesar Salad (and our waiter brought extra of that for our kids to be able to have, even though it wasn't part of their meal!). I was a bit apprehensive about going there based on things I had read on here, but am thrilled to say it was *by far* one of our most enjoyable meals during the entire trip- 11 days! Have done H&V in the past for F!, but now will never go anywhere but Mama Melrose.

~Sidenote- We are adventurous eaters, maybe even sometimes "food snobs", and Italian does not usually rank up there as one of my favorites. So, hopefully that will give you a little insight as to how much we enjoyed this meal!

Mama Melrose is one of the few places that will allow you to order one of the appetizers for two for just one person. I've done it several times (ordered the antipasta platter twice and the calamari once).

OT: Another restaurant that allows one person to order an appetizer for two is Rose & Crown. We've ordered their cheese/meat plate several times and each of us get one.
