Hi - we are nearly at the stage of buying into DVC, and I am thinking of going for AKV. But in order for me to decide how many points to buy, I was wondering if you could clarify something about the room views for me.

Am I right in saying that if I book a Jambo standard view studio or 1 bed room that I will definitely get a pool view?? (This was something someone indicated on another thread and I just wanted to check I understood it correctly!!;))

I also understand that there is no difference in point value between Jambo and Kidani, so I would be better off booking Jambo if I only had enough points for a standard view, as then I can't end up with a car park view. Have I got all this right??

thanks for any advice!!:thumbsup2

The Jambo standard view studio or 1 bed room is a pool view.

Have you thought about buying a AKV resale contract first. Then you would qualify for Member pricing and minimums for BLT.

thank you for clarifying - thats great news!!:thumbsup2

I had considered resale, but being in the UK it seems more complicated (I was told I would need to get dollar cheques to pay for it - which is a real headache for banks over here it seems!!:confused3), plus the ROFR wait etc has kind of scared me off slightly!!;)

You could pay by credit card or by an inter-bank transfer if needed, for the later there is usually a small fee.

Be wary of buying exact points you may need for an AKV standard studio for a particular time of year. Always better to buy more than you think you need because, though total points for a resort cannot change, they can shift points -- take away from one season and put them in another or take away from weekend nights and put them in weekday. And that shift can be quite dramatic when they make one. They just did so beginning 2010 (mainly a weekend to weekday shift). Go to the DVC Point Charts tab above and look at point charts for 2009 and 2010 and compare the two and you will see the differences.

Yes the Standard View rooms at Jambo face the pool area. Some views are better than others however. Some views are almost totally obscured by trees and there are rooms where the roof over Boma and Jiko will affect part of your view. The partial roof view isn't too bad but I would take the standard view we had at Kidani over a totally obscured tree view at Jambo. But there are a lot of standard view rooms at Kidani that I would not like at all.

There are also differences in the rooms between Jambo and Kidani. The studios are very similar but the 1BR/2BRs are quite different. Kidani's rooms have a larger living area, a separate shower stall in the master bathroom, and an additional full bathroom with a toilet, small vanity and tub/shower. The master bath is directly connected to the master BR so you can move between the two in privacy. The Jambo 1BR/2BRs are smaller, have a combined whirlpool tub/shower in the master (which is across a small hallway from the master bedroom so you can be seen by guests in the living area when you cross between the two), and no additional bathroom. I prefer the Kidani rooms over the Jambo rooms for these reasons.

How do the value 1br rooms compare to the standar 1br rooms at Jambo?

About three feet shorter in length and they don't have the sleeper chair. They only sleep four, not five. They might be pool, savanna or parking lot view.

Do they feel cramped? It's still got to feel larger than a standard hotel room since it is a 1 bedroom, I'd think.

Hmmm...maybe I'll keep my first value reservation in October to see if I like the size or not. Won't know if I never try it (just a party of two). Kidani has spoiled me though!
