Clarification on AP Discount

We are planning a trip in Dec with my parents, brother, and sil. We had a few questions about AP codes?

Is this process correct?
You simply call and ask about the availaiblity of the discount code to be applied to your current reservation. Whenever they finally come out. If you are given the AP discount, then the person who has the reservations in their name must then buy an AP and have it to present at check in? If you don't have the AP at check in then you get the rack rate.

My parents are paying for some of the room so my mom made the reservations at the Poly under her name. Right now she has a AAA discount but is hoping for a good AP rate. My mom had to give her AAA number before the CM would even discuss those rates. So she wants to make sure she doesn't have to have an AP number when she calls on an AP discount code when they are released.

Thanks for all your help.

You are able to make an AP rate reservation without having an AP. I ordered my AP online for pickup when I arrived and was able to check in at the AP rate without even being asked for the AP. However, it was in their system that I had ordered an AP so possibly that's why they didn't ask for it. I've heard some people are asked at check in, some not. But, bottom line, you can make an AP ressie without having purchased an AP.

You can make the ressie with the AP code before purchasing but you are suppossed to have either the AP or the voucher showing you've purchased an AP to show at check-in. That being said, sometimes they have asked to see it and sometimes not but if you are asked to present it at check in as proof that you are eligible for the discount and cannot produce it, they will change your rate back to the rack rate and charge the credit card they have on file that they took for your first nights deposit (or if you paid the 1st night deposit with a check, they'll simply add the difference to your final check out bill). Only 1 person needs to have an AP though - and not sure but I don't think the ressie actually has to be in the AP holders name, but the AP holder must be listed as staying in the room because I've heard you can purchase a childs AP to get the discount. I've also heard you can reserve up to 3 rooms with the AP but I'd assumme then that it would have to be in the AP holders name but you wouldn't have to actually be staying in the room since you obviously couldn't be in 3 rooms at once.

Anyway, I'd make sure you have either the AP or the voucher at check in so as not to have your rate changed back to the rack rate;)

Thanks for clarifying. That was my understanding from reading the boards. But after the CM wouldn't even discount AAA rates with out the number, my mom wanted me to make sure she didn't need an AP number when she calls when the codes come out.

Hmmm, that's odd. When I reserved ours earlier this summer, I told the cm upfront that I hadn't already bought our AAA membership (will do later before we go), and they gave me the rate anyway. Of course, I'm actually holding out for the AP rate.:)
Maybe different cms do different things....
