My daughter was at Disneyland last weekend and reported that the French Market no longer has the clam chowder in a bread bowl and salad :( It was replaced with corn chowder???? :confused3
This was one of our must eats at Disney. I realize you can still get the chowder at the little place next to Pirates and the place across from Haunted but they don't come with salad and there isn't the wonderful atmosphere of the French Market. So sad. Anyone know if this is permanent or just a temporary case of the stupids.??

The whole concept of clam chowder in a bread bowl came from Boudin Bakery in San Francisco. They supply the sourdough bread for Disneyland, and they produce it on site at their bakery at Disney California Adventure. You can take the bakery tour there.

They still have it at the Pacific Wharf Café at DCA. We had the clam chowder in a bowl on our last visit. This more of what I expect. It didn't come with a salad, although It's of course a "manufactured experience", but it does sort of remind me of Boudin's demonstration bakery and cafe in Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco.

Phew! I was at the Pacific Wharf Cafe over at DCA and I saw that they got rid of the corn chowder (which I love)...good to know that it's still at DL. The clam chowder is still at DCA.

If you're seriously craving the stuff, you can have it at home.

Someone mentioned the corn chowder...

Here are pictures I took of the new (nasty IMO) menu at the French Market.

The corn chowder is vegetarian. The Jambalaya can be made vegetarian. Both are SPICY. To me, at least. My Korean husband laughed at the idea that they were spicy. But beyond that, the jambalaya just wasn't very good.

They have changed the cornbread to *jalapeno* cornbread, which means it's off of my son's Favorite Food Ever list.

And now they've taken the kid's meals out of the plastic Mickey plate/bowl, and they have them on real plates now. It's part of being "green". (which I typically am all in favor of)

Except for when illogical decisions are made. Like putting those rolls into two separate thick plastic containers that probably use the SAME amount of plastic as was in one of those thinner plastic Mickey plate/bowls. Plus they still will have to wash the dishes.

So that's the menu. It's been out since October. I've just emailed this info to wdwinfo and allears so that people can be aware, and not be absolutely flabbergasted like we were, when they found all their favorites 100% GONE from the menu.

Oh, and feel free to giggle at their use of the word "artesian" to describe their breads. They mean "artisan", but hey, I guess they can use a completely different word that doesn't mean what they are trying to say at all, if they wish to. And they do seem to wish to, since it's been 2 months since I let City Hall know of the completely wrong word and it was unchanged when I took those pictures a couple weeks ago.

Oh man I'm sad about the Mickey played. We always brought them home and reused them. The wash well on the top shelf of the dishwasher and my kids love them. Wish we ha gotten more last trip.

What?? They got rid of the 4 cheese pasta???? :(

Same here, though we hand-wash. My son doesn't need them now, but for awhile those plates were the best way to get him to try something new.

Oh yes indeedy. I nearly cried when I first walked in and saw that new menu in October.

Now we dine in shifts. DS gets his mac and cheese from FM, and DH and I either get veggie po'boys at RBT or fried green tomato sandwiches from Hungry Bear. DH liked the corn chowder fine enough, but even between the 3 of us we can't eat a whole breadbowl, and if you get it separately it's just NOT enough chowder. And I just don't like the food there anymore.

Plus, everything seems to be salmon (a fish I have always despised even when I ate fish), and the whole place just smells like it. Bleah. In my opinion.

OH and because the kid's meals are on plates now, like Fiestaware, it's harder for kids to carry their own trays! Yay, way to make things easier on us! :faint:

I could write about the changes in the kid's burrito meal at Cocina Cucamonga (and I assume at Rancho) if you like... They're blaming that on California. :upsidedow

I'm so sad about the 4 cheese pasta....that was one of my favorites. :( you just broke my heart Molly. :'(

I'm so sorry. :(

I promise I didn't make the decision to get rid of it, though. :) I loved that cheesy veggie breadcrumby deliciousness as well. I do not know what they are thinking.

I know. LOL I don't think they are thinking.......I know that was a popular dish there, I always saw people eating it. :confused3

Just to be clear PWC didn't get rid of the corn chowder...this is a seasonal item and even up to right before thanksgiving they had it ...my daughter and her friend go over there all the time just for the soup lol but at the end of Nov they said it would be back in the spring

The corn chowder is also available at Storyteller's Cafe in the GCH. :)

This made me tear up! It was me and my hubby's favorite place to eat and favorite thing to eat. I'm afraid to tell him!

we are really sad and disappointed about the menu changes at the French Market. Always was a "must do" and a favorite lunch spot, not only the clam chowder, but the location as well. Thanks for the pics of the new menu, sadly, there is nothing there for us anymore. :(

Since this thread has been resurrected, maybe I'll ask a question. Has anyone heard of a Mickey Mouse head shaped bread? I've seen all sorts of complex animal shapes turned into sourdough at Boudin in San Francisco but not that one. It would seem pretty simple. If there can be golf bunkers, cookies, and windows, why not just take three round pieces of dough and bake them into one piece.

I did look on the Internet and couldn't find anything.

Yep, they sell it at the Pacific Wharf Cafe and the bread cart in the Pacific Wharf area in DCA. They have also recently started making Lightning McQueen and Mater shaped breads. At Thanksgiving and Christmas they do holiday shaped loaves.
