CKC Fort Lauderdale Reviews- pictures addede

How big is the roladex base that is used? I am in love with the idea, just have to figure out how to cut the cards.

After we got the roladex in class to cut extra dividers we literally traced the cards on cardstock and then cut them out- not very high tech or hard. To cover them we glued them on paper and then cut around them.

My first class of Saturday was All Over the Map. It is by quick quotes and I loved it. We made 3 page layouts. One of them was a dedication page for a vacation that had a cute chipboard key pocket to hold room keys. The next page also had a pocket but this was a big one and had a few tags for pictures. The pages were greens, blue, and creams. They do have a companion packet with more of the same paper.
Pictures: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/CKC photos/IMG_5007.jpg - the key is made to be a pocket- it is holding the velum strips that you are supposed to add to your hotel keys
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/CKC photos/IMG_5005.jpg - the parenthasis at the top is supposed to go over a picture- it is not attached
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/CKC photos/IMG_5006.jpg - the things in the pocket right now are for on the page- there are 3 tags- the filmstrip has 3 spots for photos, and another parenthasis

The next class I had was Latest and Greatest with Basic Grey and like others from this conference I thought the class was great. I was able to complete all 4 pages without a problem and I did pick up the companion kit but haven’t even looked at it yet (although we did see a picture of them during class). The first page was in the Euphoria line and was blue with a light green photo mat and a pink flower accent. The second page was brown, pink (almost all covered), and white. This is the one hthat uses the white pen you can buy during class if you choose. It also uses a scalloped piece of bazzill and I loved learning to use that. In addition the instructor told us that if you are just interested in using the edges only they are selling bazzill border sets that just have the borders instead of buying the whole sheet and cutting it himself. The companion kit uses things from class so the pages won't be able to be finished without items from the class kit. The instructor gave a few really good ideas on design and explained her reasoning behind layouts.

My third class of the day was 4 Flower Techniques with SEI. I love SEI classes. The main layout is green and pink. We made about 9 flowers to put on the layout. The first 3 were done in a similar way with sewing. It was very simple sewing and I like the first and third flowers best of those. Then we made one using ribbon and a fabric doily and also some sewing. The other flowers were made with layering chipboard and stickers. We finished class a little early but my layout was finished.

My next class was another SEI class 4 Paper in Motion Techniques. The class was very fast paced in order to get the project finished and you defiantly don’t want to get ahead. It used their Chocolate line which is browns, silvers, and pinks. The techniques are really interesting and I can see the possibility of using some of them in the future. We made a page that attachés over the top of the page protector and slides back and forth to reveal separate sections of the layout. We also made a mini book that was tied to the outside of a page protector. We made a folded paper double mat and a tag that is attached on the outside of the page protector that slides up and down a ribbon on the page.
Pictures: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/CKC photos/IMG_4974.jpg - the paper in the middle slide back and forth over the page protector to show off the 2 photo mats beneath.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/CKC photos/IMG_4975.jpg - the top mat opens to an oragmi style paper folded second mat. The paper tied on is a full 12 by 12 paper folded to make a mini book for photos that has windows in it. The journaling tag is on the outside of the page protector as well.

My last class of the conference was All in the Family also by piggy tales. The instructor was the same as the day before. He is really laid back and just walks everyone through the project at a relaxed pace. This was a board book with little flaps that life up. We used the same awesome craft knives as Friday. I was able to finish the whole book during the hour class as after the first page I went ahead because the book was made similarly to the one from the day before and had full color instructions. Plus he papers are in order so it is easy to complete the pages. I really like these books and look forward to doing a few more. I also like the paper lines that are based on Fairy Tales and the new ones are printed on safe recycled paper.

Rebecca,
When you have time, I'd love to see pictures of all that you made.

bumping so people can look at the photos- just ask if you have any questions or need something clarified.

Love seeing your projects. Great pages and some great ideas! Thanks for sharing them.

Ok these are very very cool - now what do you do with them? Put pictures in them? What is this rolodex punch I'm hearing about? This seems like a very cool gift project to do....I am always thinking way ahead to do things like this for Christmas presents.

Where do you get the base? I'd be looking to do a lot of these I think fairly inexpensively so I'd want to 'make' the cards out of cardstock.

Going to the vendor faire at valley forge next week on friday for a brief run through - anything stand out to go to first? Was canon there? Was wondering what they have to offer at this one.

Thanks!

That base is different from other rolodex bases. The rolodex punch I have makes TWO holes. The base shown looks like it needs one. Can that base be purchased in a store?

it does look like one hole at the bottom. and the punch does have 2. i bought a punch last night at staples just in case i needed it. :goodvibes
my bosskutz die punches it with the holes, but you just never know!

I am fairly certain that most places at Fort Lauderdale will also be at VF because our vendor fair was really small- mainly places from FL or places that had committed to 2 years at FL- many of the vendors from last year were not there.

It has a different base than a normal roladex- although you can use the same idea with a regular roladex. The ones from Awesome Albums cost $5 for the plain one that you decorate and that is cheaper than a normal one but there isnt a punch for it. I plan on scanning in a card and making a crafdtrobo file for it and then cutting additional cards on my machine. Basically if you cut out the area between the holes on a normal roladex it wouldprobably fit this one.

Yes, you would put pictures in them. The cards themselves are 4x4 so 2 pictures on a 4x6 photo (4x3 photos) are the perfect fit. I suppose you could also use it for many other things.

I gave one of the extra rolodexes I bought to a friend of mine to make one for her DH for father's day. She just cut the cards out of cardstock and used the rolodex punch I had from Staples, which yes, gives you 2 holes, but if you cut off the piece that hangs down between the 2 holes, it fits just fine. The cards they sell at the faire have "feet" that tuck underneath that bar on the base, and the regular cards don't tuck under quite so far, but they still stay on.

I don't recall seeing Canon at Manchester CKC. There are a lot of vendors selling page kits and laser cut things. I was underwhelmed by the vendor faire this year.
