I am back at my hotel after my first CKC class. I took "A Taste of Scraptique". We didn't have time to finish everything up- actuall if all the people in the class had worked faster we would have almost finished all 3 layouts but many of them took a lot of time doing each sep so we kept slowing down. I really like 2 of the 3 layouts and the ideas for how he layouts work are really good. I think I may use one of the layouts as a sketch for my next completed page layout.

The instructor- Kim was very good about going back for those having trouble and since there wasn't another class we could have stayed and gotten any additional help we needed on the class. She gave away a few door prizes throughout the class.

The vendor faire starts tomorrow but tonight I got a few things from the CK booth. They had CK in a box for $25- I had thought about it before so I figured it was a good deal. They had a variety of books and kits at good prices too. I bought a set of 5 small books- each focuses on one area- titles, borders, and journaling are a couple of topics. It was $5 for the set and just glancing through the books I saw things that looked like I would learn from them.

More after tomorrow's classes (I only have 6).

Shucks, I wish I planned better. I am on my way up to Ft. Lauderdale today and am staying for the weekend. I could have planned on coming over, the shopping would have been great!

Have a blast today!:thumbsup2

$5 for idea books? That sounds like a good deal.
I love looking at idea books. Doesn't mean I use them. Have to actually scrap for that to happen. :rotfl2: But I sure do love to take them out and look at them a few times.

I am doing CKC Valley Forge in August, can't wait!! Let us know how the vendor fair is.

Thanks for the review, Rebecca! Have fun with the rest of your weekend.

I got that CKU in a box too - It does seem like a few fun projects to put together.

Thanks for posting. I signed up this class at Valley Forge. Glad to hear that it was decent.

I'm going in the morning, but not taking any classes this year. Wasn't happy about any of them. I'm just going to go to look and spend some $$$.....:)

I am back from another day of classes and such. I started out my morning at the Vendor Faire- less vendors than last year I didn't see a lot of things I just had to have. I did get a really cute dog album from SEI, and some Brazzil paper from Embellish it. I got 2 clear albums from Awesome Albums and a bunch of things from a dollar area. I hope to have a chance to look at things tomorrow afternoon as I just couldn't concentrate because of family things when I had the vendors scheduled in this afternoon. There were definately a lot less vendors- Boxer, Scrap Daddy, Skinney Cow, and Cara Miller are all missing from last year.

My classes were good today overall. My first class was 4 Ribbon Techniques by SEi- I love SEI and most of their lines- I get there bimonthly kits- This was a Friends Word album. The album itself was made of chipboard already printed with the SEI Ali's Wonderland on it so we didn't have to cover the letters only decorate. We finished the whole album while in class and I learned a few things that were new and cool. The album is worth more than the $17 price tag on this class. The line is lime green, light blue, pink and purple with lots of glitter- definately a girlish line. As ith all SEI classes they are very generous with their product and I have los of things left over. Just as well because I love this line for the flower and garden show album that I am doing.

The next class was Always and Forever by Scrapbooks and Stickers. The album was a combination of Acrylic and Chipboard and circular. The papers were greens, pinks, and florals. We completely covered 2 of the acrylic pages so it doesn't have the same feel as last year's acrylic album but it was a fun project and I will use it. I enjoyed the class and we finished all but the last touch of stickles (didn't want a wet album to bring home) and things that needed to go on after pictures.

My next class was Fiends Forever by Piggy Tales- It is a board book class with these sliding window pages that let you add hidden journaling or pictures. It is a very cute idea. I loved the self-healing mats and the fiscars exacto knife they used in class. The knife was short but it had a finger thing on it for you to slide your finger in and it gave better control than I have ever had wih an exacto. The materials were very good and the class kits had most things cut as needed (outside of window pages) but the instructor was having computer problems and wasn't sure about a number of things. I am glad I took the class because the concept is really cool. There were door prizes given away in this class too and I actually won.

My last class of the daytime was Vellum 911 by quick quotes. I love their classes and they are very generous with supplies. We started out doing a wonderful page on canvas that is supposed to fit in standard albums. I haven't tried it yet but it wasn't too thick. Then we made 3 other pages. There were 2 pages we couldn't get done during our time - which isn't unusual. I learned a few new techniques for using velum and again it had a large class kit with lots of supplies left over for other projects. Lots of door prizes in here as well. The lime green page has one large strip of velum for the poem that you weave in and out of the paper behind it, the title is little hands and feet. The velum on the friends page at the bottom is a pocket. The blue page has 2 photo mats/journal boxes that go down with your photos and are not attached yet. There are 2 more pages in the class kit- one is cream with blue flowers, the other uses a brown striped paper.

I headed back to the vendor faire to spend class coupons and look around but I just wasn't in the mood for it when I knew I had pressing maters back at the hotel so I headed out.

This evening I took Waiting for Baby by Awesome Albums. It is one of their roladex classes and it was a cute idea and really easy to adapt to anything you want. I may very well go back and get a few more to do as gifts or such. This was a beginner class but the idea is very cute. There is a lot of cutting and glueing in this class though.
Pictures: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/CKC photos/IMG_4983.jpg -Brag book- we just put it together we would need to add our own pictures/embellishments
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/CKC photos/IMG_4987.jpg - folder with months 1 and 2 done. I didn't finish it in class or yet.

My favorite classes for learning techniques were 4 Ribbon Techniques and Vellum 911. My favorite projects were Friends Forever and 4 Ribbon Techniques. I will use the projects in Waiting for Baby and Always and Forever and I like them. I love the quotes and such although I wasn't as crzy about the colors in vellum 911.

Tomorrow I have All Over the Map (Quick Quotes), Latest and Greatest with Basic Grey, 4 Flower techniques (SEI), 4 paper in motion techniques (sei), and All in the Family (Piggy Tales).

thanks for posting Rebecca. Gives me an idea of what I might want to take in Hartford.

I knew a number of you were looking at going and sign-ups start soon -that was my reason for such detailed descriptions. Today's classes will have to wait awhile I am going to guess. I don't think I will have internet access until late Wednesday for the most part.

Rebecca

Thanks again Rebecca. I signed up for a few of the Disney classes. Please let me know if you hear anything about them.

Great reviews!

I took a rolodex class from Awesome Albums too - the Family Memories one. I found the project so versatile. I bought a couple of their plain rolodexes at the vendor faire for future use. I ended up giving one to a friend of mine who really only dabbles in scrapping and she made one with photos of her baby girl for her DH for Father's Day. She couldn't get over how easy it was for such a big impact. He loved it! I will definitely be making ones with different themes for gifts in the future.

I was going to drop this class. I am glad to hear the good reviews. I'll keep it!

I would take photos of my other projects, but they haven't progressed beyond coming out of the bag I took to CKC. This was the only one I finished in class. Well, finished except for pictures.

:rotfl2:

Thanks. I really like the colors they picked for it.
Do you have the instructions? You could email them to me, DISname at yahoo dot com.

That is really cute. If you have the directions, would you mind pm'ing them to me? Thanks.:goodvibes

Thanks for the great reviews, now I have an idea of what to check out.

Nope. No directions. But I can summarize because it's super simple.

The cards themselves are 4x4 squares. The bottoms of the ones they provide are different - they have little "feet" that tuck under the bar of the rolodex. They sell those blank cards at the faire and on their website. But of course, many of us have the punch for the rolodex cards from the swap way back when so you can just punch the regular rolodex holes in regular cardstock. Then it's just to embellish them any way you choose. I alternated stapling the ribbon between the left side, middle and right side. I also used buttons and brads here and there. When my friend did hers, she didn't use ribbon, but instead used brads, metal tabs and prima flowers. If you wait until the pictures are actually on, it's easier to see how much/how little embellishing is needed.
