City of Anaheim looking to ban short term rentals (condos)

Hi all!

I gotta say that I love this board. It really helped in planning our first family trip to Disneyland in 2014. We are planning our trip for May this year. The person that we are renting our condo emailed us saying that the city is trying to ban short term rental properties. From the sounds of it things aren't looking good for condo owners that are renting near Disneyland.

On our first trip we rented a condo right across the street from the shuttle to Disneyland. It was fantastic and very convenient. We looked into staying on site for this trip, but found it to be too expensive compared to staying at a condo. Perhaps we weren't looking into the best deals? I really hope the ban doesn't happen as that may affect future trips for our family. Does anyone have any more insight into this?

Here is a link talking about the situation.

I can't speak to the rentals, but there are umpteen very good hotels and motels in the area, to bridge the gap between renting someone's place and staying onsite.

I agree with bumbershoot. There are tons of really good non-DLR hotel options with walking distance or ART shuttle to the resort. Some of those options even include free breakfast. How many people are in your party?

This year we have 6 in our party. We actually already have a condo booked for this year. So there is no issue there. In the future when we visit Disneyland we'd like to rent a condo again. It is too bad that they are phasing that option out. It really worked well for our family and helped us save enough money that we could extend our trips. I'm sure the hotels and resort are very nice... I guess if this law passes then we will have to look at other options for future trips. It could be good to get out of our comfort zone!
