City Classic Double for tall seven year old?

OP, I don't know that particular stroller...have never taken a double to WDW (dd with special needs was 6 her first time there, but she walked for the couple of hours she could handle being in the park...aka mobility isn't her biggest issue). I will warn you to check WDW site, for what NOT to bring into the park. They have specific measurements, and any stroller bigger than that can be refused entry into the parks. NEver knew about that, till I saw the family in front of us at Epcot have to turn around and rent one, theirs was too big. Might have been told something about a front wheel (has to turn or swivel or something??) It might make your decision easier!

The baby jogger doubles are def allowed in WDW!! You will see lots of them. The issue with the stroller being refused was most likely an older or strictly jogger stroller that has a fixed front wheel (does not swivel). That is an issue because it is virtually impossible to turn it, you have to lift the front of the stroller off the ground and pivot it to maneuver and we all know how easy LOL it is to navigate post parade crowds in MK :rotfl:

AI'm thinking that starting a line of strollers for older kids would be a very lucrative business :scratchin

Baby Jogger has that covered, also! Yet another reason I LOVE them - awesome strollers by an awesome company. They have an entire line of "special needs" strollers as part of their Advance Mobility division. And, Orlando Stroller Rentals has the Liberty availalble for rent at Disney. :goodvibes

We have a Baby Jogger Elite single for our oldest as he has some physical issues. We bring that one with us to Disney and rent the City Mini double for the youngers. I love love love the BJ City Elite! DS is now just over 49" and he fits very comfortably in the stroller. At first I always thought the snack tray was absurdly high (it didn't look right when he was smaller) but now I realize it's because it leaves room for his knees now that he's so much taller. My only "complaint" with this stroller is that when it's all the way reclined and if he lays on his side and pulls his knees up to his tummy, it shifts the center of gravity too far towards the back of the stroller and it can tip backwards. It has only happened once and it's not something he does often but it's good to be aware that it can happen.

I have a bunch of pictures of him in it - I can't get to Photobucket here at work but I'll put some up later tonight. This has to be one of my very favorite strollers and I have quite the obsession with them... :lmao: I love the canopy as when DS gets overstimulated he can pull it all the way down and create a dark, quiet cave to retreat into. It's very plush and is very comfy for him. I can push it with one finger even though he weighs over 50 lbs. The handlebar is adjustable so my taller DH can raise it as necessary. (I don't work for Baby Jogger, I just love their strollers... :rotfl2: )

Before There is a Baby Jogger City Elite on sale at albeebaby.com that I've been considering but worried about leg room compared to the high dollar BOB that I'm afraid I would be afraid to leave at the parks.

This is the site that I posted earlier which lists the measurements of the various strollers so you can get a good idea of how your child will fit. I'm guessing you're considering the Bob Revolution as that's the one with the swivel wheel - you can compare these to the BJ stroller specs to get a good comparison:

http://www.letsgostrolling.com/2007-bob-revolution-stroller.html

(the URL says 2007 but that's because they don't update the page name - the specs are current as I've seen them change over time - not that I'm obsessed or anything - I find them fascinating marvels of engineering... :rolleyes1 )

The BJ is actually a bit larger - 1.5" more in butt to canopy height (this is the most important one to me as DS really needs to be able to use the canopy to make a cave), 3.5" more in knee to feet distance and the seat is 1" deeper on the BJ.

I think it SMART of you to plan for the worst...forget those other posters.

My first thought was a sit and stand..but I understand DS7 may want to sit and not stand!
Just a thought...we bought a "buggy Board" for our jogger at home it works well for our 5 yr old when he needs a break from walking.

It can make it awkward to push though.

OP, found this on WDW's website directly. HTH in your decision-making!

This is exactly what I need, especially the cave....please post pix when you can!

Does your son have enough leg room? I think I know where part of our tax refund is going LOL

PM me your email address and I'll send you some pictures of DS in the stroller. :thumbsup2

We have a City Classic Double that was bought just for WDW. I took my then 6yr old to the store to make sure it would fit. It did where most of the other doubles weren't big enough. DS is very tall. Right now, 7.5 yrs 52lbs and 54in tall. We travelled with this one and a Graco single for the little guy. Never regretted it for a minute. DS7 liked sitting while DH and I pushed all the kids. He played with his sister, etc. and just people watched. He was less tired because of it and once we all came down with stomach flu and had low energy to begin with, I couldnt imagine getting him to walk all over the world. Don't mind what anyone says. It worked great for us and we'll bring it again this year. We plan to use it for the two little ones but we're bringing a Maclaren Quest as well to leave in the room so we can use that for the little guy if, God forbid, stomach flu hits again ... or DS7 just doesn't want to walk all day long for 10 days in a row.

By the way, he wasn't the only 6yr old in stroller. I felt bad for the 6 yr olds trying to sleep in small umbrella strollers because they were just too tired to walk. It made me very happy to have a stroller that DS7 was comfortable in.

I found a Baby Jogger at a sporting goods store in town. It is the Baby Jogger 25th Anniversary Performance model - 100 lb capacity but maximum head height of 21 inches. The Baby Jogger City classic isn't on BabyJogger's website anymore, so I don't know what the maximum head height is on that one, but on the City Mini it is 23 inches. I'm thinking the Baby Jogger Classic has an even higher maximum head height. Anyone know? The City Elite has a max head height of 25.5 inches. Could they possibly have renamed the City Classic to City Elite? It looks similar.

Anyway, I'm pretty confident that we'll rent a Double Baby Jogger City Classic from Orlando Stroller Rentals. While it will be a pretty tight fit for our seven year old, it will be good enough should he get tired and want to ride for a while.

We have the Baby Jogger City Series Double and my 7 year old DS still fits in it :) We leave on Tuesday for WDW  and we are bringin it with us again. I also have DD's who are 2 and 5. The girls will be my primary riders but I know my son will jump in from time to time. It is a GREAT stroller :thumbsup2

I took pictures of my then very big 8yo in the City Double a few years back.
She fit fine.

You can see the pictures are here.

Lathamary - That one you played with at the store is a true jogging stroller with that huge fixed front wheel - it's a whole different animal than the City series. :goodvibes

The City Classic and the City Elite are the exact same stroller except the Elite adds on a "baby kicker" footrest which is for very young ones so they can lay flat and not have their feet dangle, a built-in parent console (made of fabric), a slightly different basket and different fabric choices. The baby footrest is just a flat piece with a collapsible stand that attaches with velcro and when not in use gets stored in a pocket under the seat. Unless you're using the stroller for a very young child, it's not necessary.

So the measurements on the Classic are identical to those for the Elite; the Elite just costs more for the extra bells and whistles. I've measured the "butt to canopy" height myself on ours and it is a solid 25".

I got your PM and I'll send them out tomorrow (they're not on this computer). :thumbsup2

Just reserved a City Classic Double through Orlando Stroller Rentals for our trip

Thanks again, everyone, for your info!

I'll make sure to get lots of pictures of my kids in it, since I'm sure I won't be the last one asking if big kids fit in it.

I cant wait to see your pics. I just saw a pic of 2 kids in a double rental from Disney and it IS really small. So I'm leaning towards renting from OSR but would love to see more pics with bigger kids in the strollers.

Have a good trip!
