Reading the entire story it seems that this kind of entertainment isn't being discontinued, just some (about 1/3rd) of them will not have their contract renewed. The story goes on to say that they are bring other entertainment to the park.

This is one of the first cuts that really upsets me as this was a unique aspect and one I feared when they turn it into Pixar/Star Wars land

This is going to happen a lot over the next year I think.

Headlines will hype a cut (DISNEY WORLD CUTS 10 CITIZENS OF HOLLYWOOD) because "Disney Changes Up Entertainment at Hollywood Studios" doesn't have the same pizzazz. The actual change: 19 performers remain and entertainment will be added else-ware. The new stuff will (hopefully) slot in right after the current contracts expire.

(Disney doesn't have anyone to blame but themselves for that though)

Yes and we saw the wonderful replacement entertainment provided when "Off-Kilter" was given the "axe" by the ever popular and very short lived "lumber-jack" show by the Canadian pavilion at EPCOT which surrepiditiously got "Axed" themselves.

but with the cuts in these highly paid cast members, ticket prices will be going down... at some point. Annual pass holders can expect a 36 cent refund in the near future.
