WASHINGTON (AP) - Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who has used her son's death in Iraq to spur the anti-war movement, was arrested Monday while protesting outside the White House.

Sheehan and several dozen other protesters sat down on the sidewalk after marching along the pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests.

Sheehan was the first taken into custody. She stood up and was led to a police vehicle while protesters chanted: "The whole world is watching."

I would have paid good money to cheer on her arresters. What a nut.

(flame-proof suit on :) )

Wow....oh, well...she broke the law, so off to jail she goes.

:rotfl: :rotfl: ::yes:: ::yes:: I agree!

(Flame/Bullet- proff suit on) :rotfl2:

If she didn't get the President attention before, she got it now! What a nut.

Eh, I don't blame her. I think I'd act the same way if I had a son die in a war that we had no business fighting.

Why??? Are we not allowed to disagree with this administration without being arrested? You all may disagree with Sheehan but that doesn't make her a "nut". At least she is out there speaking up for what she believes in.

I don't understand how you can support a man who has sent Americans to die and more die everyday and be so nasty to a woman who wants to have them come home alive.

And no we are not better off with Saddam gone, Iraqi is better off but the US isn't. I get sick of hearing that line in defense of the war. I will never believe that getting rid of him was worth 1900 American lives. And for all of you who think it was in response to 9/11, we will soon have more dead from the war than died on 9/11, and we have not even made a dent in their organization.

I happen to have a great deal of respect for Cindy and her followers. She is brave enough to stand up for what she believes to be right and that is what our country was founded on.

Not all of us follow like sheep.

When did peacefully protesting in front of the WH now subject one to arrest?

Cindy Sheehan maybe annoying, but I do believe we still have the right of assembly and the right to redress our government..........or has that all changed on planet Bush?

::yes:: I mean , until you have your own flesh and blood die in such a way, I don't think ANYONE should judge her.

When one does not obey the lawful orders of the DC police to move along. Maybe you missed this part of the story:
Sheehan and several dozen other protesters sat down on the sidewalk after marching along the pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests.

But she does not have the right to sit on that stetch of side walk. People are not allowed to remain statioary in that area. Its a security risk. All she had to do was keep moving back and forth along the street and she would have been fine. Sounds like she broke the law deliberately and deserved to be arrested.

I find what she has to say irresponsible and dishonerable, but despite the fact the she annoys the heck out of me, I have no problem with her speaking up. She has that right and no one should stop her from excercising it. She does not have the right to break the law in the process however.
