Hi all, just wanting some ideas and opinions on whether you think that CRT is worth the 2 TS credits for dinner. We have ressies for Sept 16th (my daughters 8th birthday) and then plan on going to MNSSHP that night. The only thing I am having doubts about really is that it isn't really worth it, seeing as only Fairy Godmother will be there during dinner and not Cinderella. I am kind of caught and not sure what to do, want to do something fun for her bday and was thinking if it's not really worth it, and we can get 2 other character meals for the cost of this one than we could do that and perhaps go to Rainforest Cafe for her bday breaky or lunch.
I have put in a call to our travel agent and she is looking in to see if we can ressies for "supercalifragalistic breakfast", "chef Mickey's", " tusker house breakfast", "crystal palace" and or ressies at Akershaus. Any ideas on any of these? I will be there with my daughter and a friend who's daughter will be 11 when we go.
Thanks for your suggestions!

We did CRT for dinner a couple of years ago and the food was almost inedible. Although we had a late ressie, so the food tasted like it had sat out for a while. However, the experience was wonderful. We had a great, attentive server. We had asked him when he first came to out table about the champagne flutes in the display case outside of the restaurant and if you were able to purchase them. He said no, they were only given out for birthdays and engagements and such. We were not celebrating any of those occastions. Well, at the end of the meal he came over with a white box with two flutes inside! Needless to say he got a huge tip! Also, we had made a later reservation and when we went to leave they had already roped off the castle before the fireworks started. We weren't able to leave but we did get to stand under the castle with Cinderalla and watch the fireworks from there with only about 10 other people. So that was our experience. Food was bad, but experience was great. So I think it would still be nice to take your daughter there. Also, you had said that Cinderella wouldn't be there. But you do get pictures with her before you are seated, but she doesn't come around during your meal. Along with the Fairy Godmother there were a couple of mice that came around to our table. Sorry about the long post, but wanted to give you an idea of our experience. We also have done Donald's Breakfastosaurus (now Tusker House) multiple times and that has always been great. Also did Crystal Palace for dinner last year and they had a great selection of food. So that is what I have to offer. I know from other review of CRT that I've read, most people say they go for the experience and not the food. I hope that whatever you choose is fabulous!

thanks LuccaDrake for your reply, I am not going to cancel our ressie yet just waiting to see what happens and if we can get something else or not. I hate to cancel it as I had thought it would be quite an experience for my daughter for her birthday. This is one of the only character dining ressies we could get at the time that our travel agent had called for this day. So we are still keeping our fingers crossed that everything will work out. I had also read that we get our pic taken with Cinderella but then she leaves.
Thanks for your quick response and I am still looking forward to our trip which is our first together I have been there but she has not! Should be a magical time!

I agree with LuccaDrake. The food is so so, and yes, your interaction with the characters is limited. You see Cinderella and get a really nice picture with her (to keep), and the Fairy Godmother and Mice come to the tables, which is also nice. However, the castle is something else. It is beautiful and well worth the 2 TS for the atmosphere. Nothing better than eating like a princess in a castle for your 8th b-day.

I am having the same delimma - is this a good idea to do before MNSSHP? We have had lunch at CRT and it was so-so. The only redeeming thing were the princesses. I'm a little worried about dinner, but it's my daughter's birthday trip, and every 11 year old should get dinner in a castle, right? :lovestruc

Another opinion. My husband and recently had dinner at the castle and paid with real money instead of a dining plan. We had an enjoyable time though I absolutely thought the food was medicore and the service was o.k. They were very very fast and obviously trying to turn the tables. I definately thought it was very expensive for the food we got and the character interaction which was minimal. Having said that -- my husband throughly enjoyed the evening and having dinner in the castle and he hates character meals and isn't a "disney person". He now loves people he actually ate in the castle! Now . . . if I had a little girl and we were staying for a special evening at magic kingdom and she had always wanted to eat in the castle I would absolutely say yes -- knowing that you are paying for the experience of eating in the castle and smiles on little faces.

Ok, well I have had a real hard time trying to decide but have decided to give up our ressies. We were able to get breakfast at "Supercalifragalistic" breakfast buffet the day of her birthday and spoodles on another night. We will continue to try to see if we can get another reservation while there but wasn't soo sure that the Castle was still worth the 2 TS credits, when you are able to go and walk thru the castle I know its not the same. Perhaps next year when we go again I will try to book the Castle for breakfast which in my opinion is a better deal and the food seems to be more appealing.
Thanks to everyone for their responses earlier!

I was wondering the same thing as the OP. But I am looking at it this way:

I am not paying for my daughter to eat the meal. She'd eat the same amount if we were dining at McDonalds.

I am paying for the experience, which she is just gonna love! She loves the castle more than anything else in WDW. And knowing what I know, I'm not walking in there with high expectations on what the food will be like. I just want to sit down, eat, and not have to cook or clean ANYWHERE while on vacation.

I can't wait to surprise her for her birthday with dinner in the caslte. She's been very fortunate to meet Cinderella, Snow White and Belle in Toon Town. She's also had dinner at 1900 Park Fare with Cinderella and Prince Charming. Nothing can come closer than dinner inside the castle. I feel very lucky to have gotten an ADR there.

To each their own and that's what dinner in the castle means to me.
