Cinderella Big Golden Book

I was given a huge pile of books today by a parent, who has a friend that is moving (a teacher also). In the pile was a Cinderella Big Golden Book with a published date of 1950. It is in ok of shape,bind is broken and looks like someone put yellow tape on the bind at one time. I dont think this is one I should let the children use, am I right?

The nice thing about that book is that the illustrations are by Mary Blair. She did much of the concept art for the early Disney movies.

There were several printings. Mine is also marked published 1950 but it's a the 34th printing 1974 edition. I bought it on ebay a few years back for $5.00. I have several Disney Big Golden books and the illustrations are wonderful.

I have 2 Peter Pans (one is a first edition), Pinocchio, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Sword in the Stone and Disneyland.

In my opinion books were meant to be read and enjoyed. I can't wait until my grandson (now 2) is old enough to read these books. That book sounds like it was well loved. I think children will be fine reading the book as long as they know to be careful with it.

In my opinion, I would read that to a child and keep it separate. My kids have always been good with books, but I know that the occasional rip or crayon doodle does happen and that would be that. Plus, as a teacher (sorry if I am preachy here!) I encourage people to read aloud to the children. It increases vocabulary and a love for reading!
