The polynesian grounds are huge. Even at full capacity, you don't run into alot of people, when walking around, except in the buildings of course. We had a room overlooking the pool area, our last trip.
When I went to have a cigarette, especially in the early morning or in the evening, I just found a secluded chair, making sure no one was around I would bother. If I couldn't find a secluded chair by the pool, I would walk down to the lake area, and sit on the beach.
I think as long as you take other people into consideration, it shouldn't be a problem. For example, you are allowed to smoke on the patios, even in a nonsmoking building (per hotel rules), but I wouldn't do this. What is allowed and what is appropriate is too different things
I obviously don't want to start a debate on smoking here, as it is a HOT topic, and the thread will be closed immediately.
You are obviously concientious about this and it will be appreciated. It is the people that don't care about others and just light up whenever and wherever they want, that cause people aggravation. I try not to be one of those.
Have a great trip.
