Cigarette smoke, ugggghhhhhh

The sad thing is, people that smoke don't KNOW they smell like smoke, or even worse, that their KIDS smell like smoke.:scared1:

My DD has one friend who recently asked her "Do I smell like smoke?" And being the insanely honest person she is, she told her "yeah, you kinda do".;)

She's embarassed about her parents smoking and making her smell like an ashtray. She never knew about it until her new boyfriend asked her if she'd been smoking herself because she smelled like it. Poor kid.:sad2:

My daughter has a friend whos parents smoke. I will have the kid over here (even though she stinks like smoke all the time) but I won't let my daughter go to their house. The smell on that other poor child is just disgusting and I won't have my daughter exposed to smoke inside a house and smelling like that. The kid loaned my daughter a book and I had to send it right back the next day becuase it smelled so bad of smoke I didn't want it in the house!

We are smokers who haven't smoked inside in about 8 years. Once we had the kids we were happy that we had gotten into the habit of smoking outside. DH smokes in his car but only when the kids aren't with him. His car STINKS! Especially when it's rainy. I don't smoke in my car at all. The kids have never seen a cigarette although I know I can't hide them from it forever. It bothers me when adults have no regard for their children as far as smoking around them outside, I can't even imagine doing it inside where there is no place for those children to go.

On a happy note I started my Chantix prescription on Sunday and will quit on 4/1. I've quit before and only smoke about 4 a day, but I'm tired of it and want to be alive for my children. I have the willpower because I was able to do it twice when I was pregnant. But DH always has smokes on him so it's hard when he's around. So I'll quit then I'll start working on DH.

That was what it was like when we'd get things from my grandparents. I can't tell you how many times we went to their house for Sunday dinner and I would throw up as soon as we hit the fresh air- and my vomit smelled like cigarettes. When we got home, we kids would strip down to naked in the mudroom and our clothes would go right into the wash. Coats always had to stay outside, sometimes in the shed after we wore them over there. When they gave us toys they had to stay outside for a few days before they could come in. When they moved to FL and sent packages my mom would open them up and sit them in the shed for days before allowing any of it in. It wasn't 100% but it was better than nothing. Funny to note that not one of their kids smoked, in fact most of them are really against smoking, and none of us grandkids smoke either, except for my cousin who has a cigar 1-2x/week with some friends from work, but I see that as different from the 2 pack a day thing. They've since quit because they were forced to for health reasons but I still remember it quite vividly and of course they never thought it smelled or anything. I even remember my Dad being in the hospital and they were staying with us so my mom could go visit for the evening and my Dad calling me and telling me not to let them smoke in the house and me telling them that and getting wickedly chewed out. I remember my brothers and I locked ourselves in their room and refused to come out until my mom came home, they were that mean about their habit. Because as long as they were standing in the kitchen the exhaust fan would take care of it
