Are any of you ready fot the 17 year cicada (Locust) outbreak? I lived in Chicago when it last happened and were I loived we didn't see any but in the burbs they were everywhere. This is going to be my first experince with them.Any one expirencethem17 years ago and want to perpare mefor this? I do remember that when they were here last time Chicago has the Taste of Chicago and the had chocalete covered cicada. Yuck

Well, it sounds a lot better than turning the water to blood, or I guess as far as plagues go, it should be an interesting one!:earseek:

Is that 17 year outbreak for this year nationwide or are the outbreaks dates different from region to region? I know it is always 17 years but I wonder if the years for the outbreak are different regionally. I hate those abnormally large insects! They sneak up on you.

:o that's not this summer, is it? i thought it wasn't for a couple of more years. I was a teen when this happened (I think)

These are the state affected
DE, GA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TN, VA, WVA

eeewwwwwwwwwwww!!!!

the last time I was 16, this is a 13 year cycle, more Southern states have the 17 year cycle.

I hate those things, one got stuck in my ear last time.

I'm buying a helmet!!:p

Yes I remember the last outbreak, they were all over the place. Even though I HATE bugs it wasn't to bad.

For thoes who are not sure what they are exactly, just do a search for Cicada and there will be pictures. I do not know how to post a picture or I would.

I remember when I was growing up on New Jersey that we had cicadas every summer. Never in any great quantity but they left their shells all over the trees.

What's up with the 17 year cycle if we had them every summer?

great. just great.

i was a kid the last time this happened. i thought it was cool then. i don't think i'll be thinking that this time around.

I'm confused about the 17 year thing....I remember then from when I was around 10-13, I can't remember exactly...
I remember we took the shells of them and you could make them stick to stuff by squeezing their backs inward and then releasing them...We did this to my best friends dog and little brother....

We had them here in central NJ in the late 90's. I can't remember the exact year. It doesn't last for long but man are they loud.

They come out every year, but the big crop of them comes every 17 years up here.

This will be the third time for me. I remember them the summer I was 17 and the summer I was 34. (Now I am 51.)

What DH and I remember is how loud they were. I lived in Baltimore the last 2 times and you could hear them over the noise from the beltway. They were everywhere and were very destructive to some trees. DD wants to be a camp counselor this summer and I warned her about them.

This whol thread makes me feel itchy LOL

I'm glad we don't have those here!!
