I'm not sure how to vote. Can't say I hate it, but I became jaded and cynical about 20 years ago and stopped caring. Must have been when I was around 8 or 9 and my mother said I was too old to visit Santa and wake up to presents under the tree. Then my grandfather died on Christmas Eve 1998, so I started dreading it. However, this year, I'm trying to get back at least some of the magic.

For the record, I'm 32 and I want to see Santa this year. You're never too old.

LOVE IT!!! It's my FAVORITE holiday!! :yay:

I love family Holidays but HATE Christmas. It is to commercial and people get together just because of the gifts. 90% of the gifts in my family are not needed and just end up in the basement and or the bin at Salvation Army.

When I was growing up, my parents did not talk to me much but bought me many gifts. They would ask me what I wanted for Christmas and I would say more time and conversation, but instead they bought me stuff.

I'll say LOVE IT, but I'd be happier if it was only for about 2 weeks. I love the idea of a white christmas with santa and pretty lights and decorations! I like driving around seeing all the houses lit up and seeing all the stores decorated. I like christmas music and giving gifts. But 2 months of it is just too much for me. 2 maybe 3 weeks of it would be perfect.

At least around here most houses waited until this weekend to decorate. One house had their lights up and turned on, on Nov. 1st. :sad2: I'm all about the spirit but that was just too early for me. It wasn't even like it was a nicely decorated house. It looked like they threw them at the roof, let them stick, and just turned them on.

I love it. One of my favorite things when I was little was my Grandparents would drive me around to show me all the houses decorated with pretty lights. Lots of "oohs" and "aahs". Last night I drove my son around and loved seeing him get all excited. :goodvibes

I voted don't care. There are a number of reason for the way I feel, though.

First, even though I'm a devout heathen, Christmas has gotten far away from what it's really all about and I think Christians deserve better (see, heathens are good people, too).

That said, I think way too much commercialism has ruined a lot of the spirit for even us non-believers. It seems Labor Day is barely behind us and Christmas is thrown in our face, not for the spirit of the holiday, but purely for marketing purposes.

I married into a big family that makes a big deal about getting together under one roof for major holidays. Just a little too much dysfunction in one place for me. A jumbo jet taking off is quieter and I prefer to eat my meals in a more relaxed setting. Then there is always the insistance on saying grace. In somebody else's home that's okay (for them), but keep in mind that most of these "suddenly religious" family members would need directions to get to church.

I don't like Christmas so much for the religious aspects, which admittedly is what it's really about. But, I do like a few weeks (not months) of nice decorations and music and a smaller family gathering.

I enjoy Thanksgiving the best as long as it's kept simple and Easter is non-existent for me. A good old-fashioned Fourth of July picnic is always fun.

I'm confused. I used to love Christmas. But this time of year is getting increasingly difficult for my family. Two years ago my DH's brother was killed in an accident on Christmas Eve. And last year we found out that my mother has inoperable stomach cancer right after Christmas. I just feel like the holidays won't ever really be the same for us, and I'm starting to sort of dread this time of year. :sad2:

It's the most wonderful time of the year.
