We decided to tone down the Xmas gifts this year. Joe was up in arms and jealous that I got a new tattoo at Hart & Huntington a couple of months ago when we went to Universal for HHN. He has wanted a new one for years, but never did anything about it. Now that I have tat #2, he's chomping at the bit.

I had barely suggested we forgo going nuts on gifts for one another this Christmas and get tattoos instead. I was not even finished with the sentence when he jumped in a said, "YES!"

So yep, Joe is getting a tattoo on his left shoulder. A very cool one of a gryphon in the celtic style. I'm getting a new one to cover up an old one on my right shoulder that I hate. Since it's a cover up, per the consultation I had last week with the artist, this one is going to be freakin' HUGE. You'll be able to see it coming down my upper right arm.

It's looking a lot like a White Trash Christmas.

Or as OrlandoMike would call it, my Mid Life Crisis.

I think that is a great idea for a Christmas gift. My partner has about 10 and wants to now have "sleeves" done on both of his arms. I'll have to look into getting him a gift cert to his favorite tat shop. Can't wait to see it.

White Trash on Baby :thumbsup2
I love me some men with tats.:)

Oofah. My new one is not going to be a sleeve. It's going on my upper arm but will reach down to almost my elbow. You'll be able to see a good chunk when I'm wearing a short sleeved shirt though.

But the design... let's just say it will NOT go with my outer uber-preppy aligator shirt wearing, Biff looking persona.

So what's the design?

And what's the tatt that you hate that you're having covered?

I have a Jason Voorhees beat up hockey mask on my left calf. It's just the mask for now, but will have more details added around it later. And the new one I'm getting as a cover-up on my right arm is going to be Freddy Kreuger's glove with the palm at the top and the blades going down my upper arm, looking like they're cutting into the skin. Yep. HUGE HUGE horror fan here. Always have been, always will be. More than Disney even. :scared1:

I'm covering up an old one that is of the globe with the continents with a peace sign superimposed over it. I like the sentiment, but think it screams out DORK.

Sorry to butt in, but I have to say that I think the cover-up tat is hysterical when you stop to consider what it is that it's covering up!!! Sorry but I just started howling out loud when I saw what you were covering up. Carryon...

Trust me. It occurred to me too. I keep thinking, "Yep, Freddy ripping bloody tears into my arm to cover up peace on earth. Awesome." :rotfl:

:rotfl: never would have guessed this about you!

See? Everyone thinks I'd forever be the uber-preppy collar popping pink & green alligator shirt Sperry Topsider J Crew/Banana Republic/LL Bean kinda nice nice boy-next-door sort. Well... I AM! But I like tattoos and have a rather strange obsession with horror movies of all kinds, particularly all the slasher flicks from the 80's.

I want my money back! I've been mislead! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My friend has put tons of money and research into the tats he has, and will be going to a competition at an event called Hell City (I believe that's what it's called). His tats are amazingly gorgeous and look like paintings because the colors are so vibrant. One of them is in the style of the Renaissance painters. *swoons*

ANYhoo.......I've learned a lot about tats through my friend because he goes on and on about his experiences with them :lmao: , and I guess I'd like to add this: Before covering up any of your tats be sure to research and make sure the artist who's working on you has a ton of experience because there have been apparently several cover-up procedures that have gone bad. Make sure he/she knows about what colors can or cannot cover up other colors, etc.

Depending on the size of the one you want to cover up and the number of colors involved you might even want to look into lazer removal. It can be expensive, but considering I've seen large tattoos that cost well over $1500, the lazer procedure might not be so bad. :thumbsup2 And I have a little experience in lazer procedures. Trust me, they can do wonders.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do or anything, but just know that some tattoo artists have the "right" experience, and others don't. Just be careful! :)

Yup. Done that. Spent quite a bit of time researching the local artists, called and spoke to a few, even went in to chat in person. Plus, if the shop looked even remotely sketchy, I didn't even bother going in. The place I chose is known in NYC as one of the best in the city. The artist is also known for his work in the horror theme. Plus, he's also known for doing pretty great cover up work.

All is good! :thumbsup2

Excellent! Look at you, Mr. Prepared. :thumbsup2

Prepared is Rick's middle name. It might also be his confirmation name, too.

Yeah. I think he has some sort of planner that he writes in.:confused3

I want my tattoos removed.

Dh and I are not getting stuff for each other this year either. I was fine with it until this morning when I realized that I wasn't getting anything this year.

 What kind of ritual do you two normally have?
