Christmas Tipping

We have a group mailbox too and we have to go to the post office to mail things. Our post office does an VERY bad job too with lots of people never receiving mail, tons of lost packages and so on.

We also have those automated trash trucks. I wouldn't know how to leave a tip if I ever wanted to!

I always buy a box of the Pepperidge Farm fancy cookies for the Garbage guys at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am tipping the newpaper deliverer, I look at the note as a way to get her address, or else I wouldn't be able to tip her! I tip all the teachers, main and special area, and make cookies for the school office staff. It kind of gets out of control!

I try to keep Christmas simple ..even in our family...so tipping everyone under the sun os out of the question...

I basically only give to my childrens teachers.

Today a got an email from a parnet on my DS ice hockey team..
there are 17 kids on the team and she wants to collect 10 from each for the team manager
10 each for a bench coach (parent) who is only on the bench during the games..not practice..
and 20 each for a coach ( whos methods I think are nuts....actually demeaning to the kids at times)
That would be 340 for the coach ...........am I the only one who thinks this is nuts???
(even if I loved the coach..I think that is quite a lot)

(BTW my Dh had a job loss this year..he is working but now freelance..a big adjustment and I went back to college....$$$ is tight for even our kids this year!)

How do i gracefully bow out of the group gift or give less....say $5.00 for each???

We are new to guitar lessons. Anyone know the appropriate "gift?" The lessons are $13 a week.

For these kind of jobs, a week pay (13) is the usual.

My boyfriend and I want to get the woman who runs the wash-n-fold something this year. She does such a nice job with our laundry. We go there twice a month.

I was thinking about getting her gift certificates from the mall. Not sure is she has a car or not, but she can walk there. Just trying to figure out how much we should each give her.

Sad thing is, neither of us know what her name is. She doesn't speak much English, so we have never gotten into any deep conversations with her.

i would just give the collecting parent a check for the total amount you feel comfortable contributing and leave it at that (no explanation needed). i personaly hate this kind of thing-i think it puts people on the spot. the private school my kids used to attend was big on this type of thing (and i'm not just talking about some parent deciding it would be nice for the teacher to get one gift from the entire class and emailing or calling, we would get letters soliciting monetary gifts in the kid's folders-christmas, teachers day, staff appreciation day-usualy the contact for collection was someone in administration), and they would actualy do a follow up call if you did'nt drop by to contribute of course this was also the school that decided (against the wishes of the majority of parents) to triple it's physical size-they touted they would do the entire project through "the generosity of donations", when very few donated a "mandatory building donation" was applied to every student's account ($250 per child)

There is no way I am tipping the mailperson this year. Every other day there is someone new and they are all just being ridiculous. Either we get no mail or we get triples of every piece of junk mail, or we get everyone elses mail but ours. In the middle of October we got a piece of mail with the correct address but the person it was addressed to does not live in our house and never has. So, as usual, I wrote "addressee unknown" on the envelope and stuck it back in the mailbox. The mailperson actually had the nerve to slip the mail back into a Macys ad and give it back to me. This went on for a week. I'm sorry but I don't tip for idiocy and rudeness.

Now the garbage men deserve a huge tip from my house. My mom went on a cleaning spree this year. The poor garbage men probably picked up about 4x the normal amount of garbage from my house. They deserve a trip to some place warm.

Thank you to everyone talking about tipping their hairdresser. It reminded me that I really need to go to mine. Of course she will get a nice tip. She is amazing and always makes my uncontrollable hair look perfect.
