My sister is getting married in Feb, and I am throwing her a Christmas themed bridal shower. I have a few ideas, but I thought I would come here for more. Everyone always has great ideas for everything else! Has anyone done this before? Thanks so much!

While I've not had a Christmas bridal shower, I have had bridal photos taken at my house. I've also attended a couple.

What I did was to make hand beaded ornaments all in white, gold, and silver. If you don't want to bead them, go to the store and buy some white and silver Christmas ornamnents and have a bridal tree. You can buy thin white ribbon and make your own bulb hangers. Use either pearl garland or tulle or a combination for the garland. Stick some white poinsettia and gypsophilia as filler in the open spaces of the tree.

Buy poinsettias and put them in pretty pots.

Get Christmas hand towels and for your power room.

Have a champagne punch and float strawberries.

Either make or buy a wreath with white poinsettias, tulle, and pearl beads draped around it.

I think you should ask each attendee to bring an ornament to decorate the couple's Christmas Tree!

I had a shower around Christmas time, and it was very nice and festive!

If you are going to do a wishing well I would have all guests bring an ornament to put in the wishing well.

Little Christmas gift boxes with chocolates in them for favors

Instead of a guest book they could all sign a tree skirt or a stocking

For games you could put candy in a stocking (or something else ) and have people guess how much is in it.

I love the idea of a Christmas theme bridal shower. Have fun

For the Christmas showers that I attended, sometimes a few people would get together and get place settings of a Christmas pattern. Others would buy pretty ornaments.
I just bought 2 sets at Target for 2 couples who were married a couple of months ago. This isn't something that a newly married couple would buy for themselves and they love it. I buy a collectible ornament and tie it to the bow.

Champagne and cranberry juice.

I had one! Our wedding was 3 days after Christmas, and my MIL gave me a Christmas bridal shower. It was so awesome!

In the invitation, she included a Christmas-themed notecard (like a recipe card) and asked each guest to write down one of their family's Christmas traditions. During the shower, DH's aunt put all of the notecards in a cute little Christmas photo album for me.

Everyone was asked to bring an ornament for our "starter set". Then, they had each guest MAKE an ornament for us --- what fun!!!

All of the gifts were Christmas themed, from tablecloths to teapots to decorations.

Another game they played was to write a "wedding" song to the tune of a popular Christmas song. People got into small groups and were given a card with the name of a Christmas song on it. A timer was set for 5 minutes, and when time was up, they had to sing the song for the group. I can't remember any except (to the tune of Jingle Bells): Wedding Bells, Wedding Bells, ..........?!??!!?

I had one too. SIL put up her tree (in May) and everyone brought their gifts wrapped in Christmas paper along with a small Christmas decoration or ornament.

The kicker was when "Santa" showed up. At first, I thought that they got DH to dress up (which would have been incredibly cute), but then realized it was a stripper  It was absolutely hilarious to see him cozy up to my mom, my MIL, and others of their older generation.

If you are going to ask guests to bring an ornament, I would find out their Christmas decorating color scheme, at least... or if they decorate with a theme, that would be great info. I would hate for her to get a ton of ornaments that just wouldn't "go".

You could assign each attendee a room to decorate and their gift should correspond to that room. Say one guest has the kitchen, they could give Christmas serving dishes. One guest has the bathroom, they could give Christmas hand towels/soap dishes, etc.

Have each guest bring their favorite Christmas treat/cookie recipe and put it in a cook book for her. You can buy a nice 3 ring binder and plastic page holders for 3x5 index cards--or now you can find cookbooks set up like this (Pampered Chef had one, I am assuming they still do).

Maybe for your gift you could give them an artificial tree and have everyone bring and ornament and decorate the tree as they come.

My Mom threw me a :santa: " Country Christmas in July" shower. Everyone talks about how wonderful it was. I have a DN who is newly engaged and my SIL is planning on copying my shower.

My DM rented a tent and decorated it with white lights and christmas items. They put up a tree. There were family Christmas photos displayed around. They order an ice scuplture punch bowl decorated with pointsettias. I got some wonderful things... christmas stockings, christmas tree skirt, collectable Santa figurines, holiday linens, lenox holiday place settings and a huge variety of country ornaments. Another nice thing was my brothers waited tables and served the ladies, they looked nice with :santa: red polos and Santa hats on! I got Christmas items in addition to what was on my registry...We made out like bandits.

I still have these wonderful Christmas items but not the first husband, hehehe...I have since upgraded to my wonderful Disney loving DH :cloud9: !!!!

:confused3 maybe it's just me:confused3 but as a new bride the last thing i needed was allot of holiday themed items i would'nt be able to even begin to use for 10 months:confused3 i'de also be petrified that i would receive multiples of items i likely would have no practical use for (like personalized stockings).

i guess if i were invited to something like this i would REALY appreciate some guidance on what the tastes of the bride and groom were. are they into the 'ho-ho-ho santa' kind of stuff (not my taste-i prefer father christmas), the more 'refined' gold and cream colored decorations, the 'countryish' look?
even with that information i'de probably try to steer away from actual christmas themed items-my fear would be that if the person did'nt care for it or got a duplicate, even with a gift receipt, depending on close to the 25th the shower is held and if returns are'nt able to be made before the 25th- most stores won't refund more than 50% of the value (and some won't take any christmas themed items back after the 25th).

i went to a wedding held in a private home close to christmas. the tree was decorated with the same color ribboning and bulbs as the bride's wedding colors-accented with small white lights. very pretty.

I was a little worried about this also, that is why we will be keeping this shower small. Only her bridal party, very close friends and close family. So, it will not be too much holiday stuff. I just thought this would be fun! We will be throwing them a couples shower in January, more people will be invited to this one.

Thank you so much for all of the ideas, they are great. I will surely do the recipe cards, I think she will use those a lot. I also have an idea for favors. I am going to make hot cocoa mix and jar it, and make some kind of cookies or maybe pralines. Then put those together and tag them with "Eat, Drink and be Merried!"

Well, I was a different sort of bride. I had already been married once, and was 32 at the time of my second wedding. I had all of the "household" stuff I needed, pretty much.

You should always check with the bride before throwing a theme shower of any kind. I LOVE Christmas, so this was perfect for me.

She already knows about the shower. They have been living together since earlier this year, so she does have a good bit of household stuff. They moved in together after Christmas, so she doesn't have any of that yet.
