After watching the disney special on the travel channel... I can't wait to take my family to see the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian.

Have you ever been??? Please post some pics!!

Can you give me any other sight-seeing ideas. I was thinking on taking the monorail and sightseeing...didn't know if the other hotels offered anything.

Thanks!

the allears.net site has Christmas pics of all the resorts under "accomodations." click on the "slideshow" under the individual resorts on the left side of the accomodations page. Christmas photos are usually (not always--I've found a couple of exceptions) toward the end of the slideshow.

Also, FW campground has been featured on the local news quite a few times because the people staying there go all out on the decorating. I remember seeing a campsite covered in lights and moving characters, with a snowblower shooting real snow (chipped ice, not suds) out into the road. It was very cool :thumbsup2

This is how I like to tour the resorts at Christmas time.
I take the MK bus from my resort. Then, I hop on the monorail and check out the CR. Then hop back on and check out the Polynesian (although that one was underwhelming last Dec) and then on to the GF. Then I return to the MK and do whatever it is I want to do. You can also take the boat over to WL...that one is gorgeous!!!
For the Epcot resorts, I choose a day when I'll be at either Epcot or MGM. Then, I leave the park, head to BW and see what it has to offer, then over to the S/D (they are not as 'done-up' as the Disney resorts but still quite beautiful) and then over to the YC/BC, and then back to the park.
Take the bus from a park to the AKL...not very traditionally decorated but worth the trip.

please could anyone tell me, what date the xmas decorations are put up at the resorts.
thanks :santa:

They go up in stages beginning the first week of November...the resorts are completely decorated by Thanksgiving weekend.

The Disney christmas special they show on TV gives you some really good ideas of what to go see and do. We went Nov. 2006 and all the decorations were up except for the Contemporary tree which was going up Thanksgiving Day? Check out the "snow" falling at the Osborne Lights, it is foam!! We stayed at the WL and it was beautiful. We ate a gingerbread shingle sold at the GF. Keep your eyes peeled, there was so many more decorations than they showed on the TV special.

We dedicate at least one day or part of a day to go and view the decorations throughout WDW. It's awesome to see all of the decorations, but the Gingerbread house is by far our favorite. That special on the Travel channel with Samantha Brown <hawtness> gives you alot of good insight on what to expect when you get there, but it only gives you the highlights. There are tons of other things to do during the holiday season for everyone to enjoy.

i've read in a previous thread where some people put christmas trees up in the hotel rooms, in the windows.. do many people do this?

We arrived X-mas eve and stayed until New Year's Eve of 2005 going into 2006.

It was our first trip ever with 10 people (all family and we will never do it again) during the busiest week of the year.

Our family had a FABULOUS time. Yes it was insanely crowded but we were armed with the Passporter, UG to WDW, and TG Mike. Very Type A vacation planner here.

We were so wowed by the Christmas decorations. We went to every park and every resort just to see them. It was at this time we decided "ON SITE" next time.

We would love to go again to see the Christmas decorations before the crowds. They are quite beautiful. I have pics of the decorations all over Disney including the resorts but have no clue how to post them. If you are lucky enough to visit at a time when the decorations are up you will absolutely love them.

Take Care!

after looking thru the pictures I want to go resort hopping during christmas time... the GF & WL look amazing! :)
