Ok I have 2 dds who will be 10 at Christmas and I have no idea what to buy them. THey both want IPODs so I will get those but I have no idea what else.My dh won't let me buy them clothes as a gift because that is what he always got for Christmas so he thinks Christmas should be for frivolous fun stuff.
Any suggestions. What do your tweens ask for???

you know after the Barbie stage there is really nothing else

How about jewelry and accessories? Maybe a nice vanity table or jewelery box to store it in. Nothing expensive, but better than that cheapo kids stuff. I think it important for kids to learn the importance of accessorizing. Also, if you are comfortable with it, maybe some tasteful makeup. Never to early to start practicing, even if it is just to wear around the house. I never got into this stuff when I was a kid, and I find it hard to properly apply makeup or accessorize now (I was a huge tomboy).

Another idea is a room makeover. Paint, new bedspreads, fun pictures/lamps and pillows. Make it a fun place for them to have friends over too. They sell a lot of that type of stuff at places like Wal-Mart and Target now, as well as more expensive department stores.

Gift cards, Barnes and Noble, Kohl's, Claire's, movie's, dvd's , make up sets. anything tinkerbell.........these are some of dd's favorite things.......oh and limited too! :Pinkbounc

How I wish they still like Barbie. Sigh...

Anyway we did the new room thing last year. New bedding etc all coordinated so I am not ready to do that again. Gift certificates are great from other people but I really want some things for them to open.
Last year we did lots of earrings, mushi pillows, and that type of stuff so I am really at a loss.

If they like movies or video games, get them a portable DVD player or a Sony Playstation Portable (PSP).

I think clothes are different for girls to guys though - I always loved getting a few outfits for christmas that were nicer than what my parents normally would have bought. I remember in like 7th grade everyone was becoming obsessed with abercrombie so I got a few shirts from there that were really special.

But jewelry is a good idea as well.

Charm braclets. Get them the braclets and a charm each along with a gift certificate. Let them later pick out several of their own charms using the g.c.

Some ideas: new backpacks, hairclips, gold earrings (reasonably priced at Walmart), a gift card for iTunes, bean bag chairs, Firefly cell phones, purse/wallet, books, computer games...

Some odds and ends my DD really liked last year were..

A "spa" pack..had some Lollia bubble bath (really pretty bottle), gel eye mask, a terrycloth neck roll bath pillow, a wood bead foot massager, etc.

Travel books on London and Italy, along with Italian language tapes.

Lip gloss from MAC

A really nice purse

Jewelry (always a good choice)

CD's and DVD's

A really cozy throw blanket and pillow (she likes to take these in the car on trips)

I really don't like to do clothes for Christmas either, but with girls, I do think it's differnet.

What we always do, if we do clothes, is to maybe do something special that I wouldn't buy just normal clothes shopping...like last year she got a pair of pink UGG boots.

I second the gc for iTunes since you will be getting them iPods. Also, a cute holder for their iPod. Some other suggestions: a new "cool" purse, magazine subscription (I know I LOVED getting my own mail when I was younger!), Bath and Body Works stuff, dvds, scrapbook starter kit (album, stickers, adhesive, disposable camera, fun paper, etc.), g.c for manicures and pedicures (I know a lot of spas around here have tween/teen packages like that), cool stationary...

I also agree with maybe some "trendy" and more expensive clothes they might not normally get.
