Christmas Shopping 2010

HI everyone! Just wondering if any of you had some ideas for me... I am due to deliver our first baby on Dec 19th (the first grandchild as well) and we are moving into a bigger place (with a bigger rent) this weekend...so I'm wondering what I can do for Christmas this year that won't break the bank? We are trying to save for when I'll be off with the baby as my job doesn't have paid maternity leave. Looking for gift ideas for the grandparents and my hubby. Thanks!

I delivered my son last year on the 19th! Let me just say do it all early.I didn't get out of the hospital untill the 23rd(c-section and then my blood pressure was high so they kept me an extra day)Me and dh didn't really do presents last year-except the one I grew for him!! I always get him an ornament and a desk calendar so I did that but we didn't do a big gift to save on money. You can do something for showing off the new grandbaby for the grandparents like a nice album or frame or even a new camera or something.Good luck!

If you have Disney movie rewards, you can redeem points for photo books and calendars! Snapfish and Shutterfly often have deals around the holidays, too. You can take pics of the brand new little one and give all the grandparents photo gifts for not a lot of money. :thumbsup2

I think you would need to be careful ordering any photo gifts online that late in Dec., but you could always do a photo gift from Walmart or Walgreens.

I order two of my big gifts today, refurbished Dell laptops from Overstock and I saved $49 with a code from the budget board :thumbsup2.

I still need to get the big gifts for the other 3 kids, I think they'll get a dsi for the 9yo, gymnastics classes and a bike for the 6yo and a refurbished itouch for ds11.

Most of the smaller gifts are bought, I still need to get them each a book and pajamas, a couple wii and ds games for ds9 and a few more things for my 11yo.

Guess what? I bought Christmas wrapping paper from Costco. :lmao: I am so tempted to start wrapping just to get it over with. Is it too soon, lol?

:rotfl: It's NEVER to early to start anything Christmasy! Wrap away my dear :rotfl:

I can't wait to get Halloween over with so we can start getting ready for Christmas! :santa:

Similar situation for us a couple years ago. We got the grandparents digital picture frames that were on sale. I also got DH one for his office that year.

too funny!! i actually asked dh this the other day. he said as long as i knew what was for who and wouldn't have to rewrap everything later it was good.

I ordered Christmas lights and silicone ties from QVC last Saturday. I couldn't pass up the ladybug night light that shows stars on the ceiling. It even comes with a guide for constellations and shuts off after so many minutes (I think 45). My DD will love that!

I ended up having QVC on all day last Saturday they were selling Christmas stuff. I really wanted to buy the bethlehem lights. I may just have to watch for them next year they sold out of the mantle lights.

Thats too funny! I watched all day too, but only because it was the only Christmasy thing on! Even my girls thought I was nuts. :rotfl: Later that night I convinced them to watch The Grinch. :rotfl2:

I am so excited for Christmas to start. I am glad to have some shopping under my belt and can't wait to start decorating! I think I am going to start making cookie dough soon and freezing it. Being pregnant and sick, I am trying to plan ahead and go slowly so things don't seem too hard or overwhelming once Christmas gets here. :santa:

I know where you're coming from.. My son was born on Dec. 22 (2006) and I left the hospital on the evening of Dec. 24:santa: To top it off, there was a horrible blizzard that year, and the airport was closed for 2 days. Everyone who was supposed to make the birth couldn't get out here. Oh well...
Most people understand how stressful this will be for you. Try to get photo frames, or books/calendars for family members. Gifts cards are not persona but work welll, but you need to take care of yourself right now. Your new baby will be the best Christmas gift of all!

I really like the Bethlehem lights. I ordered 2 -2pk of those tiny nub lights with battery pack. Those would be perfect for the wreath on the front door and the banister in the foyer.

Wow! I feel like I got so much done today :) I made a flying trip a couple of towns over to do some grocery and Christmas shopping. I got:

4 Toy Story Hot Wheels for DS 6's stocking - he is all but done with stocking stuffers.

Star Wars things for the boys stockings - from Target dollar section light up yo-yo and coloring book for DS 6, Darth Vader stress ball and light up yo-yo for DS 11 (I also got 2 Peanuts mugs in the dollar section, they weren't Christmas...I just love Charlie Brown and they made me happy LOL)

iTunes cards - @ TRU bought two $30 packs and got $10 off. Stocking stuffers for DS 11 and DD 8.

Also, from Target, I got my mom 2 containers of nuts (unsalted cashews and raw almonds) she loves them and I had a $1 off 2 coupon so I got them and am putting them back for her. She and my stepdad are hard to buy for so occasionally I just give them a gift basket filled with food and stuff that they like.

I also got a $5 giftcard at Target for buying the scrubbing bubbles cleaner (you had to buy the starter kit and a refill, I had the get a giftcard coupon that was from Target and then stacked it with a manufacture coupon for money off the cleaner/refill) I had a $5 GC from them from last week for buying Glade candles so now I have $10 "play" money to shop with. Trying too decide what I'll put them towards :rolleyes1

When I got home I placed a Kohl's order: I got 3 pairs of pj's for DS 6 that will be birthday presents, 2 Phineas and Ferb shirts to go with the stuffed P&F toys at Christmas, 2 pairs of knit athletic pants and a Toy Story shirt for when colder weather sets in and 2 gingerbread ornaments for my tree. Used a 15% off code so I saved almost $20 and then got free shipping since it was over $100.

Then my American Girl order came today (2 days early) :cloud9: These are for my mom to give DD so I need to schlep them to her sometime.

Wow, you did great!!
And now I need to check our Target for those Peanuts mugs and Star Wars stocking stuffers. I don't go there often because it's kind of far, but I'll have to make a trip. DD loves Peanuts so that would be a good little gift for her with some hot chocolate mix.

Thanks! The mugs are sooo cute. There is a Charlie Brown one that says "Good Grief" and then a Snoopy on his doghouse. I am taking Snoopy to work for my desk and keeping CB at home, I am always saying I feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy tells him to kick the football! LOL

They actually had a bunch of Star Wars things - coloring books, pens and notepads, dry erase boards, and the yo yos and stress balls. I think some stickers too. I understand about not going often, ours is an hour away. I only go if I have other things I can incorporate into the trip.

I thought I was the only one who did that!

The only one who gets excited over packages at the door or the only one who shops for the grandparents? LOL I do both ;) I actually buy the kids gifts for my parents AND my MIL and her husband. They just tell me how much they want to spend and I pull items from the kids want lists to make it up, they do pay for it though :rotfl: My mom hates to shop and my MIL had a stroke a few years ago and asked me to start helping her as well. Incredibly, I've found it easier to find sales and great coupons on the things they are giving this year so they are all pretty much set.

Just ordered Teacup Piggys on TRU today. Not on sale, but my girls really wanted them and had enough to get free shipping--at least those are purchased. I haven't seen them in stores yet, but so far the reviews seem decent enough and they're something different for a change.

What the heck are these teacup piggy things? Never heard of them but they look awfully cute on the TRU website.

For those who are/have bought zoobles I just wanted to lyk that we gave DD the set for her b-day yesterday and she loves them! They are really cute and go well with the LPS stuff too. :thumbsup2

Here is the official homepage to see them a little more closely.

Basically it is following the trend of people (celebrities mostly) purchasing "teacup" size real live pigs for pets. These are supposed to be somewhat interactive and they say different phrases, etc. My girls are 9 and 7 and have not seen them in stores, but were all ga ga about them when they saw me looking at them online.
