Hello,
I just wanted to ask if any DVC members knew of a nice Catholic mass near the BCVs for a Christmas eve service. I understand at one time they held them at the Poly, where DVC members could go, but I don't know if that occurs any more. Thanks in advance for the info.

I've never felt that it was appropriate for DISNEY to offer any religious services on-site. As with most hotels, it's a nice courtesy to provide times/directions to churches, synagogues, etc which are off-property.

Appropriateness is really not the question I was asking, and I hope this thread doesn't go in that direction. That's probably more of a debate board issue.

All I'm interested in is location convenient for DVC members staying at BCVs and perhaps a recommendation of how 'nice' services are or other attribute of the services, onsite if still available (this was probably discontinued), or offsite.

Thanks, and best holiday wishes to you Eros.

For a Catholic Service, I've heard Mary Queen of Universe Shrine has a nice service. A couple of people I work with have attended mass there. It's next to the Premium Outlets, not far from Crossroads.

If you don't have a car, I heard Mears is now running shuttles from the resorts to there.

I believe the shuttle is $10.00 roundtrip.

The priests from the Shrine used to say the mass at the Poly. The Shrine itself is beautiful. It is located in the Little Lake Bryan area. The front desk will give you directions.

The Mary Queen of the Universe shrine is the place to go for any Catholic Mass. My wife and I go there every trip to WDW. We arrive on Saturday and go there Saturday evening vigil. It is a beautiful place and is not far from DD, just go down the street with all the hotels on it at the end take a right then go under the underpass and it is your first left. It is on the right hand side of the street, you can not miss it. After mass there is a gift shop that you should visit, I don't think you will find many like it.

We go to Mary Queen of the Universe every time we visit as well. The church is beautiful and the services are too. At holiday time don't miss the little alcove off to the side where they have a life size Manger scene.

We finally did the gift shop the last time we were there - very nice.

Disney discontinued their weekly Sunday mass and protestant service earlier this year. Christmas and Easter services were always held at the Contemporary Convention Center. There was some discussion that they might continue this service.

I think you will really enjoy the Shrine. It is a church created just to serve the visitors to Orlando (not a parish). The Christmas Masses are beautiful and there is a lovely creche in their chapel, too.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, what's a "creche"?

Thanks for the advice, perhaps there will be a christmas service onsite. Either way, the suggestions are much appreciated.

A creche is a nativity scene. I know that because there is currently a big political argument here in Pittsburgh about one that was setup outside the USX Tower Downtown. I never heard it called that before.

Cap'n....you might want to check with the Guest Services when you arrive. I thought I saw something about WDW re-instating services for Christmas and Easter only. But I'd have that back up plan ready as well.

Oh, and BTW...very nice restraint in your second post on this thread. Very Christian response!! :)
