Christmas or New Years sailing?

What are these times like? I know they will be crowded but we have to go when school is out. We have teens and like Disney. Will the weather be warm? Will we be able to swim? Will the seas be rough?We are leaning more towards New Year's 2005. If we go during New years we can be home for Christmas. Would we be better off waiting till eEaster breack 2006? Any thought's will be helpfull. Thanks.

Have heard various stories regarding the Christmas cruises from CM's.We wont be doing a Christmas trip, but then we dont have to worry about taking children out of school. Feb is a much better time to sail. Nat

We sailed at New Year's and it was a nice time to sail. The temp was around 80 degrees so warm enough to swim. We were on the 4 day cruise so we didn't get any further south than Nassau. We weren't able to dock at Castaway Cay on New Year's Day because of rough seas. Don't know if that is a December/Jan. condition or not.

I must say we all enjoyed the celebrations on NYE. The kids clubs all had their own party along with several different adult celebrations.

This year we are taking the 10 day Christmas cruise. We don't know how to tell our extended family we will be gone over Christmas but we sure will be having fun. We think this may be our party line, "We are going on a Disney Cruise over Christmas this year and would love to have you all join us!" Do you think that will fly?

I think I sailed with you! The ship is beautiful with all the decorations and the special celebrations were really nice. But it is wildly expensive compared to other times of the year. And I am going in early November this year in hopes it will be a little warmer.

We did the 12-27-03 NYE cruise. It was awesome. The decorations on the ship, the party, it was a very special trip.
Only time I really noticed how crowded it was, was when we tryed to get off the ship in Port Canaveral. 45 minute wait in line. We lined up at 8:30 after an 8 am breakfast, and didn't get off until 9:15. I hear they want everyone off by 9 am, and on this trip it didn't happen until after 10 am.
Everyone seems to love their system for getting folks off the ship, I prefer the system other ships use where you leave in groups based on when your flight leaves. Now the system on the dock was great. Walked to our bags, walked through customs, checked the bags with AA folks at the port, and walked right on the bus for the airport.

Thank's everyone for your help. I think I will book it. We will be going to the western side and that should be even warmer but I will hate to miss cc if it turns out to be to cold or rough. The decorations and the party sound great. I think my kids will like them.

A bit late, but...

We sailed the Dec 20 - 27th western this last year, and were at sea on XMas day.

It was truly the most unforgettable Xmas ever.

It was not your standard everyone open 1,000 gifts, but a wonderful time (and Place!) to be with your family.

The ship was unusually quiet Xmas morning, until about 8am. then the most amazing things happened.

Santa himself appeared in the atrium lobby. (The best one ever!). Disney helpers aplenty were around.

Children lined up to thank him for their gifts, and he gave everyone another gift.

As a parent of teens, it brought misty tears to my eyes to watch those kids that day.

Also, it was fun to watch the CM's exchanging gifts with each other that day and makes you realize the ship is where these people live.

In the afternoon, the cast had the privledge of being served their holiday dinner by the Captain himself and his senior officers, upholding a long time seafaring traditon. You could tell they were very pleased.

Yes, the ship was beautiful.

Yes, the decorations were great.


But, the Spirit of Christmas was so palpable that day.

I'll never forget it.

PS, To top it off, all our Dis Group got together with Donna and rebooked for the Xmas 2005 trip!

Thanks jgalecpa, do you think that The New Years sailing will be just as good? The xmas one sounds trully magical. I just think that my teen's are at an age when it's really hard to find things to get them for xmas and I think they would like to have a cruise instead of alot of things. After all what do you keep getting them? Nintendo's and xboxes are getting old. They will remember this the rest of their lives. I know they would love the new years eve party too. I got a rate of 7068.00 for 5 of us 2 cabin 11's on the 7th deck. Sound o.k.?

I tell you, the Xmas Cruise was special.

I'm sure the New Years cruise would be great too, but too me Xmas is a holiday all about families.

And so Is Disney.

They made a great combination.

We have Dis Teens, and I think everyone got so much more out the holiday this year.

They will never forget a DCL cruise.



The price seems just about right. We booked 4 people in two rooms cat 9 for $6,500 last Xmas. So five people in two is right in that ballpark.

You will love the two cabins. Having double everything made a huge difference.

They had a problem with a non-US citizen family not showing up when they were suppose to on that cruise. I was on that cruise also. Was tons of fun, plus the x-mas decorations were still up.

Well I booked the NYE cruise 2005. Not sure how our school calander will play out, hope this date will work. It was such a big toss up between the two. This will give us a little more time if we want to do the space center. We just did Disney in march and stayed at the animal kingdom lodge(fantastic place to be!) so I don't think we will do the parks again. I can't wait.
