Think National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and you'll have what our Christmas was like. ;)

And the winner of the morning was when my FIL told my 9 year old, "Take your time opening your presents. We're all gonna die soon anyways and you need to enjoy life."

Needless to say, that sorta put a damper on the day...

Thank goodness my kids are teenagers, they get to remember this was the year their dad (my ex) was arrested on Christmas.

Lol...we'll he's right. There has to be more because I can't imagine that one little comment that doesn't sound that horrible to me, put a damper on the whole day. :confused3

Well he meant that the more immediate future because the world is ending very soon, of course ;) And yes, there was quite a bit to the day, but that comment was just bizarre to tell a 9 year old!

Your FIL reminds me of my Grandpa. At every family gathering, he'd always have some morbid comment to make. It became an inside joke for my family. It was our very own holiday tradition. We'd all just laugh when the comment came. The thing is, when he passed away, we really missed his morbid comments. That was just who he was.:goodvibes

Maybe he has lost his "internal monologue filter"??
Some old people just pop out with whatever random thought comes into their head.
We have a few people who are difficult and I just give the kids a little talk in the car before hand. What to expect and just to ignore it.

My DGM insisted one year that she was going to die before Christmas. She was so annoyed that she was alive that she refused to open her presents. :rotfl2: Good thing we were all older teenagers and our family has a warped sense of humor. We just laughed, hugged her and opened her presents for her complete with oohhing and aahhhing. She wouldn't even come into the living room. My dad went and picked her up and carried her in.
She lived for many years after that and started joking about it the following years. :lmao: I still miss that crazy old lady! :goodvibes

My gma a few years ago insisted that it was christmas in June and made everyone decorate my moms house (where she was living). She had those decorations up for months and then got mad when no one gave gifts. She played christmas music and movies for months too. She would get everyone in her room to talk about the meaning of christmas and that we need to be nice to our family and like I said it went on for months. So when christmas did come around she couldn't understand why it was christmas again. :lmao:

:rotfl2: God love her.

Wow is all I can say. No unfiltered statements here, thank goodness.

Or sometimes, people never really had a "filter" to begin with then when they get older, people are like "oh that person is old and that's why they are like that". DM77 has never had a filter, so I can't blame it on age.
