I saw a posting on the resorts board that someone staying at BWV was told no. I am staying at BWV and VWL and would like to know from other DVC'ers what their experience has been(or if someone is there now)...I am flying and if I can not use them---I will not be carrying them.
Thanks,
Terri

I put up garland with built in lights and an inflatable Santa Mickey Mouse with gifts that has the little (quiet) air compressor and lights up from inside on our BCV and VWL balconies Christmas 2004. The garland and Mickey were visible both day and night.

Took along an outdoor extension cord with plugs spaced out along the length and an off/on switch like a power strip.

I didn't ask though because we had seen other, similar displays on balconies.

And it was cool to be on the bus (BCV) or the boat (VWL) and hear someone talking about the Santa Mickey on the balcony and how cute it was.

I work at Boardwalk and I see balconies decorated every year. We even had one done for Halloween last month and it looked great.

I would think as long as no damage ( nail holes) or firehazard (indoor instead of outdoor) would be caused then it should be alright.

we look forward to seeing them all in 3 weeks when we come. We are part of the DVC tree swap and some of them have lights for the outside included. From the sounds of things they have been doing it for a long time and if it was a problem then it wouldn't be going on for so long. They have 2 to 4 trees rotating for each of the DVC resorts thats alot for one group to be running.

I am bringing icicle lights to put on our balcony at OKW.

I will be securing them with wire ties so there will be no damage to the balcony.

I don't think there will be any issue.

I will be going in 10 days!

I will definately have lights up around the balcony. Hmmmm, I hope I don't get a ground floor unit.

We are at VWL now and have ours up. We put some up last year and nothing was said.

Thanks everyone...I am going to bring lights with zip ties so there should be no damage...and I will be sure to only have the light plugged in while I am in the room.

We just got back yesterday...

For a change this year - I used one of the multi-colored "rope lights." I didn't need to secure it, at all - and it draped beautifully. The ends just stuck securely in the "cracks" at the end of each railing.

Then I just took some tinsel and twisted it around the rope.

It was very simple, and I think it looked pretty decent!

We will be putting up lights again on our OKW balcony. I love how it looks when lots of folks decorate. We bring masking tape to fasten the lights to the railing.

Ahhhh......... the festivity of masking tape.

I always put up lights on my balcony at OKW no matter what time of the year we go. It's part of the fun!! I bring those hooks that have the two sided tape, makes it easy to put them up and cleans up easily. So, don't leave home without them!!!

I love holiday lights as much as the next person, you should see my front yard;) ...

however, pretty sure I read in the closing paperwork we received as to restrictive covenants strictly against this practice.:confused3 Similar to what you'd expect to find in most condos.

guess it's another example of selective enforcement of the rules.

We do it at OKW - we have the pre-lit evergreen garland and drape it using red ribbon to tie to the railing and make big bows. It looks great!! :thumbsup2

So point out WHERE you read that in the POS.

To quote Barbarossa, I'm dis-inclined to acquiese to your request.

Skimming thru it once was enough for me. I only took special interest in that particular section since I'm a realtor & I tend to check out the convenants in any sort of transaction and do remember reading it.

I'm sure one of the wise sages here will be able to quote the passage verbatim in far less time than it would take me to pull out my closing documents.

BTW, I'm not a Scrooge nor advising any DVC member on the merits of enjoying any decorations they so deem appropriate, just reiterating that it's prohibited in my copy of by-laws I recently came into possession & it has evidently has not been enforced.:confused3

Definitely hasn't been enforced at OKW. I lofe teh decoartions people do there over the holiday time. Last time, we had a balcony that faced the woods and one tee box. Hardly anyone saw our lights!
