We are making a day trip into the city to see the tree in Rockefeller Center on December 4th. Once you look at the tree for 10 minutes, what else is there to do, lol?! We don't want to see a show or have reservations for anything. We just want to see Christmasy stuff and have dinner at a nice hole in the wall mom & pop restaurant. Any ideas?

check out the windows and Macys Santa and Christmas areas.:)

Rockefeller Ctr also does a tour centered around the Xmas tree! We might be doing that.

Bryant Park has a nice bunch of little booths that sell stuff. It's cute to walk around and look at all the things.

Go skating at Wollman's Rink. It used to be super cheap- now that Trump bought it it's a bit more $$ BUT skating in Central Park is magical. There is no way you can not be in a holiday mood after doing that.

Walk along 5th avenue checking out windows. The store do great displays. Go into FAO and play around. Not too many Hole in the wall mom and pop places midtown- but there are tons of pubs that have great menus. A quick google search of the Best Restaurant on xxxx street might be helpful too when you decide where you are when you get hungry.

Have fun!

oH YES THIS!! I love that! I want to go in to see that too.

Just go be part of the wonderful Christmas rush!! Get a cupcake at Crumbs. DEFINITELY go to Macy's and see the windows-- go inside, too! Observe the madness of how long people will wait for the MACY'S Santa! Go to Bloomie's and Times Square! Just walk around! I could spend hours upon hours in the city without spending a penny-- more fun if you can spend a bit, but not needed! Even the library is fun to see! Have a great time!

I'd see the tree, skate or at least have a hot chocolate, then see the windows at Saks, Lord and Taylor, the shops in Bryant Park, then the Macy's windows. If you didn't skate at Rockefeller it's easy to catch the N/R train at Macy's and take it up to Central Park to skate there, take a carriage ride, and have dinner.

here's an old world not too fancy Itallian Restaurant to look into.

Our day goes like this:

Get there and have a yummy lunch at either The Carnagie Deli or Virgils.

The Museum of Natural History to see the Planetarium show, Madame Tussauds and the Empire State Building are a nice alternatives.

Maybe squeeze in a stop at Tannen's Magic Shop.

Buy Santa hats for the kids with light up Santa's on the sleigh.

St. Patricks Cathedral.

Once the Sun goes down see the tree and take pictures. Find The Soup Kitchen for a nice hot bit of soup as we walk around looking at the store window displays.

Next FAO, Toys R Us, Disney Store and let the kids pick something little.

Then dinner and home.

It's a long beautiful wonderful day for us:thumbsup2 Nothing gets me in the mood better, for me it just isn't Christmas without a touch of NYC

:thumbsup2 I was going to say this. I stopped and looked at the shops this morning. They were closed but you can still see what's inside eacch booth. They also have the skating rink with tables and chairs around it. A Lional tran store opened across the street also.

The Soup Kitchen/Tim Horton's just opened on 6th Ave around 38th street.
6th Avenue/Avenue of the Americas) has nice decorations which looks great for posing for pictures.

Don't forget to see the windows at Lord and Taylor on 5th Avenue.
