Christmas ideas for boyfriend

Christmas is coming up soon and I literally know what I'm getting everyone except my boyfriend. My mom said not to worry about it (since he is the one who's supposed to buy me stuff lol) but I want to get him something anyway. He really likes video games, but I don't want to buy him just a game, I want it to be something meaningful you know? I've gotten him 2 gifts in the past, a drawing that I framed and a stuffed polar bear from the time I went to SeaWorld (even though I hate supporting SeaWorld lol but that's a story for another day and not relevant to this post)

So does anyone have any ideas?

When I was in high school, my go to gift was a hat. Now, I do more practical things (Bf and I are both in our 20s). Last year I got him Tupperware and a coffee maker, really cheap on Black Friday). Also some clothes he was needing and his favorite beer.

This year, his favorite bourbon, a new watch and some clothes are on the list.

For something meaningful....how about an ornament for his Christmas tree? Something from a place you've been together or brings memories of something you've done together.

Try not to over-think it...

Sometimes getting him something meaningful means getting him something he really wants and would really like - like a video game It would be meaningful to him because it shows you know and care about what he likes.

You could also maybe get him a nice hoodie and some cologne/body spray that you think smells nice.

We're both 16 also. I was thinking of getting him a leather bracelet with a Kingdom Hearts quote on it that I found on Etsy. It would mean something special to him, but I don't just want to get him a bracelet so yeah.

There is sooooo much cool Kingdom Hearts stuff out there!! Last year I got my DS the icons t-shirt and he loves it. He said he likes it because no one gets it unless they play KH, which is why I liked it too. I seriously want one for myself. I can't post the pic from here, but just google "Kingdom Hearts icons t-shirt" and you'll see it.

I'm not sure how much the leather bracelet you were looking at is, but if it's not much you could get both and wrap the bracelet around the rolled-up t-shirt.

One year I got my boyfriend a case of Monster energy drinks because they were his favorite. You could always get him his favorite snacks/drinks and put them in a basket with the bracelet.

High school boys love snacks so most would appreciate that vs a sweater/shirt, especially if you haven't been dating long (like more than 6 months)

Your Mom is wrong. Boys aren't the only ones that should buy gifts. As the mother of a 17 year old son and 13 year old daughter, I find the idea laughable.

It's not that she said that I can't, she just thinks I shouldn't/it's rather silly and not what she's used to. And she's not wrong. It's her opinion and you have every right to agree or disagree, but calling an opinion "wrong" isn't something you can do, vs calling a fact wrong. Either way, it's not stopping me from buying him something.

It's not being old-fashioned... gift giving has always been a two-way street.

Anywho, DH & I started dating when I was 16... I'm trying to think of some of the first things I got him. It was generally a mix of something sappy & romantic and something practical. I always got him a Christmas ornament because his family sucked and he didn't own a single ornament. Same goes with Christmas stocking so my mom cross-stitched him a stocking one year. What about tickets to some type of experience you can do together? For a couple years I got him Indians tickets (back when you had to get online & order as soon as they released them to grab them up before they sold out, lol!). If he's not into sports maybe a concert, a museum exhibit, etc.?

Not sure if you mentioned what kind of gamer he is -- console or PC, but DH is a PC gamer so in the past when there weren't games he wanted/needed, I got him a new joystick or gaming keyboard. Shoot, there's an online game store that DH buys all of his games from... I think it's called Steam? What about a GC to there if he plays online.

If he has a sweet tooth you could always make him some treats. Would be inexpensive to make chocolate covered pretzels or oreos, buckeyes, peppermint bark.

ETA: I just bought some FABULOUS Starbucks hot chocolate for $5 at Walmart.

Do you know how to knit or crochet? If you do, making him a beanie would be very special. If you don't but know someone that does have them make him on in the colors he like-- you could pick out the yarn for this.

You don't have to go over board. A gift should be thoughtful and given from the heart.

When I was in high school and college some gifts I enjoyed getting: Wallets, Clothes (Tshirts, hats, hoodies, etc. Most guys hate clothes shopping and want you to pick someone that you would like on them) Something you can do together - like concert or sporting event tickets, stuff for my car, cologne that you think smells good....anyways just stuff like that. Good luck, and trust me guys stress just as much about what to get girls

My mom always said the same thing as the OP's mom and she is not old fashioned. I'm not sure what the idea is behind this but she was never any help with gift giving when I was a teen. So, good luck.
