Do you usually go all out for the Christmas season? Do you only decorate certain parts of your house including putting up the tree? Or are you a grinch and don't decorate at all and watch informercials at 3 in the morning.

Is there a 4rd choice for those grinchlike without decorating but also don’t watch infomercials at 3am or otherwise?

All out. Just spent way too much to update our outdoor lights and add a couple of yard decorations.

Kitchen, dining room and family room are all open to each other and will be well covered.

Dh loves it all. I could go tasteful minimalist, but dh has a Santa collection. I call our decorating style 'magical whimsy'-Santas, snowmen, elves and 3 Nativity sets, it is the spirit of the season after all. 🥳

Not as much as I used to, but still quite a lot :santa:

Outdoor lights on the porch, tree, my mom's Santa collection, my snowman collection...

Most of it is on the main floor, but we do put a few things in the bedrooms and DH's downstairs office. I even have a couple of window clings that go on the bathroom mirrors.

I decorate a lot for Christmas.
This past weekend my trees took me 11 hours and the weekend after Thanksgiving it’ll take me about 12-14 hours (this does not include the time it takes to get everything out of the attic) to decorate the inside of the house. As long as my family continues to love and appreciate it, I will continue to do it 🎅🏼🧑🏻‍🎄👍🏻

I put a Christmas themed wreath on the door and that's about it. I'd only be decorating for myself and it's not something I care about so I stay pretty plain with it all.

I don't hang any lights outside but I do put two lighted trees on the front porch, one on the side porch and one on the screened porch out back. I used to hang ornaments on them but now just leave it as lights since no one gets close enough to see if they are decorated.

Inside, I take it pretty easy. I have full sized (between 6.5 to 12 foot) trees each with their own unique theme. If you include the porch trees and the two in the front garage windows, I only put up 32 trees.

Every year, I think that my family isn't into it and will not care and every years I start hearing "when are you putting up the trees?" earlier and earlier.

And before anyone judges me, keep in mind that the White House averages about 40 trees a year so I don't think I have a problem.

I decorate a lot but not the bedrooms. The bedrooms for the kids got decorated a little when they were younger but no bedrooms anymore.

I’m over it. The last time I really decorated the house was the 3 years after our mom passed and I hosted Christmas cause nobody else was willing to do it. That ended in 2020 with Covid and I haven’t had the ambition to start it back up. I could care less about putting our big tree up too. If our granddaughters don’t feel like doing it this year then I’m just going to set a little one on the fireplace mantle and that will be it. I definitely have turned into a Grinch.

The common areas and outside only. I don’t do the bedrooms and {{gasp}} we only have one tree. :goodvibes I love the way our stuff looks and have perfected the type and location of each piece over the years. This year will be different - we just moved to a new home and will have to plan the decor from scratch. It’s beginning to take shape in my mind’s eye. When we were house hunting, I told DH I’d know which place was “the one” when I started imagining where we’d put the Christmas tree.:cloud9:

I used to go all out, but my desire has really faded in recent years. I think it's all tied to 2021 as well as our kids getting older and nobody ever helping. 2021 just really made it stand out.

I received a melanoma diagnosis in November of 2021 and my surgery was December 29th. I knew I wouldn't be able to dismantle everything post-op and nobody volunteered to help, so I took down the outdoor display the day after Christmas. The interior display ended up staying up until late January because I had some complications that initially impacted my mobility and then landed me back in the hospital for a week with several months of recovery. That's pretty much curbed my desire to do a lot with our interior decorations. We've been known to put up five trees, I collect Lenox and National Parks ornaments... and at this point, I'm pretty content to leave it all in storage bins. The outside display is a different story. I don't mind putting that up, but our system is so rain sensitive that I'm in sort of a "why bother" place after 7 years in this house. I also have fallen out of love with my theming for the outdoor decor but can't justify the costs to overhaul the display.
