Does anyone know when they stop the Christmas parade at MK and how quickly they get the decorations down...both at the parks and the resorts? We're going the first week of January for the race and our considering going earlier to still catch some of the Christmas vibe. Earliest day we can go is January 1st.

I doubt the parades will be going after the first, as I have never seen them during marathon weekend, but there have been Christmas decorations sporadically laid out over the resorts and parks. I have been for three marathon weekends over the past 10 years. The first year, all the decorations were out, the next trip, none were out. This past trip, January 4th-8th of this year, I paid special attention to see what was still out.
We went to Epcot on Wed the 4th and a few small trees were out at the countries, but nothing large in the main portion of the park. On Thurs the 5th, the tree was up at the Magic Kingdom. On Friday the 6th, the large tree was still up outside of Hollywood Studios. By Saturday the 7th, all decorations were down at all parks as far as I could see. Kind of a nice 'winding down' of the Christmas season.

As far as the decorations, the last two years, they've been mostly down before the race, as noted above. However, I was happy to see that the Jungle Cruise Christmas overlay was still up race weekend. Also, I noticed that they were still playing Christmas music at the parks and resorts (as if you're not sick of Christmas songs by then), but they all stopped and went back to "regular" Disney music the morning of post-marathon Monday.

Thanks for the feedback, we’re considering going down on the first so it sounds like minus the parades it will still be Christmas in Disney.

Wonder why they started that? In previous years they seemed to keep the decorations up at MK thru the race weekend.

I know they have kept the lights on the castle, but I'm not sure the rest was there. Of course, the last time we were there for the marathon, we waited for our son to run past the GF instead of seeing him at the MK.
