Hello,
I'm new, we are planning to go mid jan./11 17-23rd ish. I had a few questions

will the christmas decorations be down yet? (ds really wants to see haunted mansion decorated or not) he will be sad if it is closed to remove the decorations.

I am taking two ds 8 and 3 both will want to do the jedi training and I am not sure they will allow the 3 year old, and this will cause huge fights if one can and one can't ( I may need to avoid this )

This will be my 3rd trip-
once in 2002 ( just my husband and I ( i was 3 months along with 1st ds)
once in 2007 me dh and ds 4
this time me dh ds8 and ds3

both times in jan once had christmas decor once did not ?

thanks for help

Hi, regarding your 3 year old, every now and then they will select a smallish child. If he does look very young and small they may pass, but if he looks old enough or like he can follow direction then they may select him. I would recommend going to more than one show, start early in the day and keep going back if he's not selected the first time around. Definitely show up early so you can get a good spot in the front, I would recommend the section closest to Space Mountain - so not the Nemo side, and in the center next to the aisle way.

The end of the holiday season will be on January 2, 2011. Usually the last day of the holiday season is the first Sunday of the New Year. Sometimes that Sunday has fallen a few days later in January than it will fall in 2011, so the holidays have extended a bit longer. Haunted Mansion Holiday will close immediately so they can uninstall the overlay. I'm thinking that the regular Haunted Mansion will be open again by the time you arrive on January 17th (unless they have to do any extra refurbishment on it).

It is possible - though not definite - that It's a Small World Holiday will stay open until after Martin Luther King day. In January of this year, DLR kept IASWH open until the third week so they wouldn't have two rides down simultaneously while they removed overlays.

The Christmas decorations pretty much begin to come down right after the season end date. Because there are so many decorations to remove in the overnight hours and they have to keep the parks open during the daytime, it can't all be done in one night and, therefore, some things stay up for a few days as the removal process takes place. I don't think you will see anything left in the way of holiday decor on January 17th - except, of course, for the possibility of IASWH still being open.

Regarding Jedi Academy -- make signs for your kids. My friend was just there with her son and daughter. After 3 trys her DS still had not been picked. From the tips I have read here on the boards, I told my friend to make him a sign. Sure enough, he got picked at the next show they went to. :thumbsup2

I would suggest distinctive clothing too. Anything to single them out. My son still had his arm in a cast and they used that as a characteristic. I'm not sure if his sign was the right way or not, he had it totally backwards at one point, so you might want to write on both sides. He was the third or fourth one picked. We were there on a Wednesday for the first time and it seemed there were more kids on the space mountain side than the nemo side. We were there about half an hour early (give or take --he could have had the spot closest to the center, but we sat at a table for a while as the rest of our party had left for IASW when they thought we were in line for Autopia--ds changed his mind because he thought the line looked too long). If he hadn't been picked that day we were going to try his pink shirt as it always seems to catch people's attention.
