I apologize if this has already been asked, but my search function isn't working.

Can anyone tell me what restaurants near WDW will be open on Christmas Day or how I can find out? I know I can call directly and ask but I don't know what all is around there.

Also, are grocery stores or Walmarts open that day?

Thanks!

I'm not sure...when we've gone for Christmas, we always book a turkey dinner with Publix, pick it all up Christmas Eve, and stay at the villa on Christmas day.

We all sleep in, have breakfast (the Boardwalk Bakery has great pastries - get those on Dec24 too ), open gifts, swim, nap, watch a movie...

... and at supper time, I *drag* myself to the kitchen, muttering about having to cook christmas dinner, have some wine, crash some pots around, open some cello wrapped deliciousness, have some more wine, heat them up, crash around some more, mutter loudly, and serve the easiest dinner ever by the pool.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Did I mention the wine?? :teeth:

Have a wonderful Christmas!!!
:)

What a spectacular idea esp if you are stay8ing in a vill or townhouse etc!

I love that idea (especially the wine) but unfortunately we are having to check out of our condo at 10am Christmas Day.

OMG - I just had the BEST LAUGH! I don't know you, but we would get along splendidly!!!! You reminded me of the "christmas cookie" recipe:
Cuervo Cookies

I know it's a little early, but it is time to start baking for the holidays. This is the BEST Christmas Cookie recipe EVER!

Christmas Cookies

1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality.

Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo
again to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and
drink.

Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.

At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK, try another cup just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck
in the cup of dried fruit.

Pick the frigging fruit off floor. Mix on the
turn er. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Check the Jose Cuervo.

Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.

Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to bean off the turner.
Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

CHERRY MISTMAS

I like the idea of ordering the dinner from Publix! We'll be at Marriott's Harbour Lake this year, and decided to add on a couple of days to stay through Christmas. My family may like this idea! Thanks!

I love that idea (especially the wine) but unfortunately we are having to check out of our condo at 10am Christmas Day.

Oh :(

OK, so that's not gonna work.
Need a little more info...where are you staying?
East or West of WDW?
Small kids?
Are you flying home that day?
Or checking in to your next hotel/motel/condo?

Great map of the 192, some things may need a little update, but just ask!

HTH!!
:)

I don't know about Walmart (I think it will be closed) but I know that Publix will be closed for sure.

There is a Sweet Tomatoes and Golden Corral in Lake Buena Vista (close to DTD).

Oh, happymommy, you made my day!

There will be 6 of us, my DH & I, DS18, his GF18), DS16, & DD13. We are staying at Windsor Hills & will hopefully be checking into a motel that evening, not sure where yet. We are driving down there (we live in northcentral KS, almost to the Nebraska border) and will probably leave to go home on the 26th.

I had called Cracker Barrel & they will be closed, thought that seemed very Christmas like. Maybe we'll just eat counter service at one of the parks that day. I had never heard of Sweet Tomatoes until reading this board but it sounds good.

AND, that has to be the best christmas cookie recipe I've ever heard! :)

Sounds like you have a great group to celebrate Christmas with, Traci :)

Here's my take...and let the fact that you know I like wine influence your interpretation of this whatsoever;)...
Is there any way you could stay at the condo for one more night?
Because, honestly, the Parks are going to be crowded like you would not believe.

There is every possibility that by the time 10am rolls around, you won't even be able to get in to a parking lot....World Drive may actually feel like a parking lot;)
Parks do close once they hit capacity, and counter service lines could be atrocious.

If you're set on heading to a park, go to Epcot.

Several resaturants there still have availabilty for lunch for 6 - I just checked - and book a TS meal.

It will give you a break from the crowds, and a fun way to celebrate Christmas too.

You could consider having a meal at one of the resorts too....nice way to see some of the Christmas decor, and skip the crowds of the park.

Have lunch, then head to your hotel.

Again, have a wonderful trip - wish we were going to be there too!!
:)

Thanks 'mbb' for the suggestions. I truly wish we could stay one more day at the condo but the company we are going with only book from Sat to Sat and I know the condo is rented for the week following our stay so that's not an option. I guess I never thought about trying to find another place at WH for just the night.

We were at WDW for 2007 & we did not actually go into a park because of the crowds and that is most likely what we'll do this year too. Epcot does happen to be my kids' favorite park though, so I'll keep that in mind if we do try to face the crowds.

Getting very excited about the trip!

Beware that Publix closes early on Christmas Eve. We needed one ingredient that we had forgotten for our traditional Christmas dinner. Got there early, maybe 5 or 6PM, and they wouldn't let us in the door.
