Has anyone gone to Disney's Christmas Carol Train Tour? It's coming to Baltimore (about an hour away) on my son's 6th BIrthday next week and I was thinking of taking him and his brother to it. Can anyone tell me about it?

TIA!!

I saw it in Cleveland last week. We are about 1/2 hour away. I took my ds3, but he was scared of the movie part. First you walk through the train. The first 2 cars were from the museum collection in London. The next 2 cars were how they made the movie. The next 2 cars you could take your picture and "morph" it into one of the characters---like in Epcot. You email it to yourself. However, mine never arrived in my email. I even checked my spam, so not too sure what happened to those. The last car just has a fireplace and a table with Christmas dinner on it---so they are good photo ops!

Then you go to another area where your kids can get rub on tattoos and an activity page. Then you get in line to watch some clips on how they make the movie and a few scense from the movie. It is in 3d, so they pass out glasses to you.

I liked it and thought it was neat. My son was scared of the movie and had his eyes covered the whole time. Since your son is alittle older, I am sure he will be fine!!

Enjoy!

we went in august in new orleans. it was an hour wait. in the heat. there were fans, but didn't help much. the train didn't have a/c either.

it was nice to go to something disney and free, but i don't know if it was really worth the wait.

the movie preview was really good though! it held my then 7 month old's attention!

My kids - aged 12 & 17 - enjoyed it but they've been brainwashed to love all things Disney. It made them want to go back to Disney's Hollywood Studios. We got to there at the end of the day and waited about an hour. Because my kids aren't little, they enjoyed studying the exhibits.

Here's an article that gives a good description: http://www.squidoo.com/Disneys-Christmas-Carol-Train-Tour

We went to the Boston Train this morning. Nice and early and we had no wait, just walked right in. It was getting more crowded as we were leaving, but no lines really. It was great - very well done. Great details on the history of the Dickens tale, making the movie, the digitalization of the actors and the concept artwork. Interactive screens to navigate to the sites around London. A great family take for us. And it's free - not a common word in Disneyspeak. :lmao:

I was thinking of going next weekend in Baltimore too, it's only about 15 minutes from us, but I am taking my DD to the Toy Story double feature on Saturday and she has soccer on Sunday so I don't think we'll make it :(

DH and I were in Boston this weekend celebrating our anniversary and we went to the one at South Station. It was really nice and we enjoyed it, but I don't think I would have gone out of my way to see it. We have a 2 yr old DD and I was really glad that she was not with us because I did not think the event was geared toward kids that young. She would have been a nighmare on the train, touching things etc and there were several kids that had to leave the preview because they were scared. Again, it was fun and an added bonus for us since we were in the city anyway but not necessarily worth going out of your way.

Agreed. My 12 and 15 year old boys were with us and they enjoyed it and found it very interesting. For young ones, it would not be so.

It's going to be near me soon so I'm thinking of going over and checking it out if the lines not too long since it'll be during a school day.

That way I won't have to worry about my kids driving me nuts while I'm waiting. LOL

Thanks for all the replies. Since my boys are younger (6 & 2) I think I'll show the 6 year old the website and see what he thinks about it. I'd really like to see it, but since it's his birthday and not necessarily geared towards kids, I'll let him decide.

Thanks for the input!

I took DS8, a friend (8) and his little brother who was 6. The 6 yr old was not interested at all. I dont think it is geared towards little kids at all. I personally would not drive an hour to see it and questioned the 25 minutes I drove to see it. It was really just TV screens about the making of the movie and costumes/props from the movie.

we drove an hour and a half each way to stand an hour in the half in the San Antonio TX heat w/ 2 kids w/ autism spectrum disorder. Was it a huge challenge? You betcha. Was it worth it? To us, absolutely. It was something we wouldn't be able to do again, the kids loved the interactive stuff, they really enjoyed learning about the movie and how it was made, they loved the sneak peek in 3d at the end; it was great all around! Then we went for a special lunch, so it really was a great family day out.

Honestly, I think a lot of it depends on your attitude towards it. If you think it's just a display, and not worth the wait- it won't be worth the wait, and your kids will follow your example and not "get into it"

But, if you go into it with a really positive attitude, and talk about it, and make it special for them- then it will be.

My kids have talked about it since and how fun it was; and the free paper pieces we got to make ornaments were put away until after we see the movie, so they'll get more family time out of it too.

Personally, if your son likes trains, movies, computers or learning how things are made- I'd definitely take him; but I would encourage you to go right at the beginning, so the lines aren't too long.
