Christmas Candy Wreath on a dime

So I was thinking about making one of these for the nurses at my grandma's nursing home...but if I use the kids' leftover Halloween candy will it be stale by then?

Nope. All the Halloween candy I bought this year had a "best if used by " date of 12/2008 on it.

Great idea! Thanks for posting!

I think I'm going to try making at least one of these. Thanks.

Great idea.. I know what I am going to give as gifts for serveral offices!!!!!

That is really cool. That would make a nice gift for co-workers. Walmart used to sell child sized hangers. That would decrease the size a bit if you needed to make multiple wreaths.

Hi everyone!!! Just to let you know I have been making these for years!!! I even sold them one year. Now I make them and hangthem on peopls office doors at work. I couldnt watch the video as I am at work, but if anyone has any quesitons I would be more than happy to offer help. Just some tricks....

I use the drycleaner hangers, the ones that are wire witht he cardboard on the bottom. Just pull off the cardboard, connect the ends and twist them together with pliers. I also tie some curly ribbon through the wreath for deco.

Pretty wreaths....use all werther's originals...gorgeous. Or another nice wreath is to use all strawberry candies...really pretty, as the strawberry candies normally only have one end twisted paper, the other is folded in. Of course you could also use all starlight mints and blue and silver bow/ribbon too.

I buy my candy in bulk at Sam's club. Any candy that has the twisted paper at the ends works. Remember not just hard candies...dont forget bubble gum and tootsie rolls!!

One other tip...if you take the hanger and bend it into the shape of a candy cane...they are really cute too.

Adorable! And a great craft project for kids to do, too.

Thanks for sharing that!

I think it could be used as a table center piece instead of hanging it up by putting more than one bow on it, or maybe putting something colorful in the center hole.
I may have my Girl Scout troop make smaller versions for a gift for their family.
Anyone have any alternative suggestions?

You could put a pillar candle in the middle for a centerpiece

I made some last year and sold them at a craft fundraiser, they were a huge hit. I wish I had thought to use different kinds of candy they looked great!! I used cinnamon discs and starlight mints with red bows.

I bought the candy, but forgot the string. I tried a kite-type string I had around, but it comes undone too easily. I've started a wreath with yarn because I was eager to give it a try and didn't have anything else. . .what kind of string do you experts use???

Thanks~

I use curling ribbon, usually it's $1.99 for a huge spool at AC Moore and I have been using it for stuff since last Christmas and it doesn't seem to ever end.

Thanks for the awesome link.:thumbsup2

Last December I bought a candy wreath from a co-worker and the kids loved it. I can now try to make it myself and have them join in on the fun.
:cheer2:

Still wondering what is the best kind of string? I have some yarn and I'm sure I have some ribbon somewhere. Or is it better to stick with regular kitchen string? Let me know so I can start on all this Halloween candy.

I'm still wondering if I need to go buy more or if I have enough. :confused3 Possibly go get some mints so it'll look more seasonal? Oh, and will candy on a stick work? I have several kinds of suckers in my stash, but didn't know if they'd look okay?
