Is it reasonable to think that at Christmas time it is so busy that we will only be able to stay at our home resort (bec/ of the 11 month window)?

SSR is our home resort. We have ressies to stay there in July but we plan on going back at Christmas time. We want to try a different DVC resort. But if I wont be able to get into a different one at Christmas, I will change my July ressie (to another DVC)at the 7 month window, and just stay at SSR at Christmas.

Thanks for any help..........

You've pretty much summed up the reality. Christmas time is pretty hard to get a 7 month ressie. Not impossible, and if you want to try, you might take home at 11 months and hop on a waitlist right at the 7 month mark and see what happens. However, if it were me, I would use your other strategy. It will be SO much easier to get a different resort in the summer - no muss, no fuss, no frustration and you will be able to relax and enjoy your Christmas trip to SSR.

SSR is our home resort, as well, but we've stayed there precisely one night. For the past 3 years I've gone with the day-by-day calls and have been able to get the BCV at Christmas twice, and once at Thanksgiving. I think that one-bedrooms are easier, but we've gotten a two-bedroom that way at Christmas, as well. Maybe I'm just lucky, but . . . I doubt that explains all of it!

I agree that it should be easier to get another resort in the summer time, but we have had very good luck getting other resorts (in particular BCV) for Christmas even after DVC expanded a little bit. VWL is particularly hard to get at Xmas time, but frankly there are a lot of DVC members who don't actually like to go at Xmas time because of the high points cost and the worst crowds of the year. BTW, we love it at that time of the year and bought our points with the intent of using them at that time of the year. So, yes it can be difficult, but it is certainly not impossible to get resorts at the seven month mark at Xmas especially if you are a little flexible about room type and resort.

You never know when you mike get a little Pixie dust your way :wizard: I got my ressies for this December at 5 months out :santa:

I have a small AK contract an an SSR contract. How does it work if I want to book AK for Christmas. I want a one bedroom and I know it will be more than the 100 points in my contract.

Do I just transfer the points?

SSR is our home resort & we had it booked for this Christmas.
We didn't have any trouble switching over to AKV for Dec. 20-26.

Can't wait to get there!! :dance3:

You might want to browse THIS THREAD. It's the Dec. 2007 waitlist thread. Some folks have been lucky in getting their Christmas waitlists.

You can transfer points, but transferred points are supposed to keep their home resort and use year so you still wouldn't be able to use the 11-month AKL booking advantage (technically). Sometimes, however, members have been able to get around that technicality....
