Do you receive a Christmas bonus each year? We were supposed to get one, but I've just been told that the manager didn't put it through in time-and because of that we don't get one this year! This really ticks me off. I know that they don't have to give you one. But when you're promised one and then told "Sorry-not gonna happen this year", it's a big let down. But I got a lovely bouquet of 3 pretty candy canes from him.

Sorry they broke their promise... that rots, especially if you were counting on the bonus.

Our company doesn't do Christmas bonuses. We have an annual performance bonus program that's paid out after the first of the year. It's based on individual performance as well as company performance; not guaranteed and amounts will vary based on numerous factors. They used to do a straight 5% of your annual salary bonus, but that ended several years ago.

Not at ALL? oh wow, that is really tough.........Just like Christmas Vacation.
Just like you say: when you expect it .............
I feel bad for you.......

Sorry. The same thing happened to us. DH gets an annual bonus, that is enough to cover what we usually spend on our 4 kids. NO bonus this year. Really stinks, but what ya gonna do? :confused3

I've never gotten one; nurses were lucky to get a box of candy, and since I worked 11PM-7AM I didn't even get that. :rotfl:

DH does not get one, nor does he give one. When he was an associate in a small practice, the "owner" gave the employees one.

Now he's a salaried associate in a large, nationally known multi-specialty pediatric clinic. They do not give Christmas bonuses, but do sponsor a huge, all-out party every year. DH gives (thanks to me) the nurses, clinic staff, etc large goody baskets from places like the Popcorn Factory.

That happened to DH last year. For 6 years he got very nice Christmas bonuses then last year - nothing. It was really a shame for the people who depended on the bonus. This year nothing again. I know the workers were hoping for one but after last year they weren't expecting it.

Yep...same here...we probably work for the same company.

no "bonus" around the holiday at all..not even a holiday party.

heck - I wonder if we can even leave a bit early today?!?!

My Christmas bonus this year was getting let go three weeks before Christmas! Grrrrr. . .

But at my last job at an A/C & Heating company, our boss gave us a week's pay for a bonus, and then took us to a *very* nice dinner! But what happened was, before I started working there he used to give them a dinner at a steak place, which was perfect for the a/c technicians. Subsequently he got married and his wife started planning the dinners. The next two Christmases, we had our Christmas dinner at very nice, gourmet restaurants!

Unfortunately, some of the A/C technicians griped and bellyached about the wife's choice of restaurants, as they are Meat & Potatoes men, the wife got mad, and next year we ended up with a barbeque dinner in the garage of the office and no Bonus! :( Thanks guys. . . . LOL!

No, My DH got his turkey from UPS. It makes me laugh that such a big company gives such a bad bonus. I know I should be happy he gets something.

No raises, no bonuses, no performance reviews, for going on five years. We haven't even had our original salaries restored, after the post-9/11 across-the-board pay-cuts.

:earseek: OK, I will herewith stop whining and moaning about my current employer. (Well, at least until after Christmas. :teeth: )

Hehe... thanks for the sympathy. In the spirit of my tag, "I win. My employer is 100% pathetic."

OUCH!
we had a 3% cut after 9/11...but that only lasted 6 months.
I didn't get a raise for nearly 4 years...when my current company bought out the company i was working for...my new boss LAUGHED at my salary...and then gave me a 6% increase.

and I'm STILL making less then others in the same job.

I won't say how much my pay-cut was -- we've been asked not to compare notes about this  -- except to say it was a lot more than 3%. My understanding from my co-workers who didn't follow management's dictate about comparing notes is that my pay-cut was on the low-side.

Really sucks to be us, but from what I've heard from others in the area, we should be happy we have jobs. All the work we do (software development) is being sent to India, China, Lebanon and elsewhere now.

I hear that. My company did a huge outsourcing project this year to India. Everyone wonders not if but when the full-time employee layoffs will begin. Management either sends tasks offshore or hires consultants instead of f-t employees now. I'm just thankful every two weeks when my paycheck envelope doesn't contain a pink slip in it.

You always post very interesting posts. Isn't it wierd that an industry that was almost started in the U.S., (I think the some Germans came over after WWII to get computers started). And now that the computer industry is thriving the jobs are being sent elsewhere to keep the cost down.

I would like to add I got a $125 dollar bonus and I get to go home this afternoon-without pay, (I choose it that way).

I'm very pleased to say I got a really nice bonus and he promised to talk about raises next week. It's funny, I worked for a very large company for seven years - no bonus. Now, I work for a VERY small, family company and get very nice bonuses and love who I work for. So please know, if it can happen to me, it can happen to you.
