Christmas at Universal - First Visit

Just made our on site reservations to spend Christmas week 2015 at Universal. This will be our first trip. It will be my husband and two teen age sons. We were hesitant about being away from home on Christmas but that is the only time we have. Anyway, for Christmas eve, Christmas day are there anythings you would recommend as far as reservations for any restaurants, etc?

We have 7 day tickets for both parks so didn't know what would be something special to do on Christmas Day. We are only going to stay on site the last 3 nights of our trip which would be Christmas Eve through the weekend. So these days we would have early entry and first of line etc. Any suggestions of off site hotels to stay at the days before we stay on site? Any hotels have a shuttle?

Thanks for any info as I am sure as the time gets closer I will have many more. Just want to get reservations needed out of the way ASAP before since I know Christmas is a busy time.

for off site, Drury Inn and Suites is 2 miles away.
they have a free park shuttle.

if you have ever stayed at a Drury Inn, they are set up the same.

they do take AAA for discounts.
