What should we bring for decorations?

We are going to stay at the cabins from December 7-12 and thought we would spread some Christmas magic by decorating the cabin.

We are flying so we have some limitations. We also thought that we would just leave the decorations up when we leave for the next guests.

The last time we stayed at the cabins in Decembe we seen lots of campgrounds decorated, but we didn't notice the cabins so much.

I would love to hear your suggestions!

We decorated our cabin last December (and we also flew in). I brought two of the flat lighted window decorations for each of the front windows (you can get them at stores like Wal-mart, with different shapes like: holly, stocking, snowflake, etc). New boxes of lights are also easy to pack and wrap around the deck railing and any nearby trees or bushes. For inside, tinsel garland is cheap and easy to pack.

If you'll be renting a golf cart, don't forget to bring some stuff to decorate that as well.

I don't think I would leave the decorations up though, housekeeping probably won't be able to leave them, so they'll be stuck with the undecorating. I would bag them up and offer them either to your housekeeper or if you see someone just arriving as you leave.

Another idea. Mail your decorations to the resort! Prior to our December trip, I packed up a box of inexpensive decorations that I had purchased during the after Christmas sales the year before. Lights, small tree w/ ornaments, garland, Santa hats, holiday tablecloth, extension cords, etc. I mailed them to the resort including my name and reservation number. I also put wrote on the box, "Hold for guest arriving Dec XX."

It worked great! When I checked in the CM told me I had a box waiting and sent someone to fetch it. We put the box in the closet planning to decorate on Christmas Eve. That afternoon the teens in our group were feeling "blue" that it was Christmas and they didn't have a tree. We brought out the box and told them to start decorating! (They were not aware I had sent the box down.) They were thrilled and really got into it! It really made for a nice family moment.

I would agree with the previous poster that you should take the decorations down before you leave. We put them all back in the same box and left them for the housekeeping staff to take or dispose of. After we returned home I found out that our teens had managed to put most of it in their carryon luggage at the last minute.

Have a great trip!

We were just at the cabins and loved riding around at night seeing the many campsights lit up with decorations. If I was going at Christmas I would definetly bring lights to string around the deck. I would bring a small Christmas tree and put it on the shelf of one of the two side windows that face the street. Also a light up window decoration for those same windows.

I would also make sure I took them down as I'm sure Mousekeeping will anyway after you leave.

and we will be sure to take them down afterwards. I am not sure what we will do with them yet, but we don't mean to make more work for Mousekeeping.

I particularly like the idea of the light up things for the windows.

How many strings of outside lights do you think we will need for the deck?

I needed two (100 lights each) boxes just to wrap the railings of the deck. There is a plug on the other side of the 2nd door, you will use up a couple of feet of lights to be able to reach it (unless you have an extension cord, but you don't really need it). If you have room I would probably bring another couple of boxes to be able to wrap any nearby bushes or trees, or you can also line the driveway. Originally, I had only packed two boxes. We happened to have to got to Target anyways, so I picked up another two boxes after seeing how many lights the neighbors had put up :) .
