Hi to all and welcome to a new chapter in my life.....

MY HOPE IS FOR A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE ALONG WITH NEW FRIENDS. COME JOIN ME ON THIS ADVENTURE!!

I am 48 years old, have a wonderful husband and 2 DD (20 and 16). I am a substitute teacher and a Disney Store Cast Member and LOVE both of my jobs.

However, I feel like I have the body of a 95 year old. And believe there are probably 95 years olds who are in better shape than me. Just got back from Disney World and found myself stuggling to keep up with my family UGH

I am only about 40 - 45 pounds (on a 5'1" body) overweight but it might as well be 100 pounds. The weight has crept on slowly sneeking up on me at every turn until today I am plagued with osteo-arthritis in both my knees which require physical therapy twice a week.

Been listening to the doctor and therapist tell me for 5 years that every pound I take off will feel like 5 off my knees. Have I been listening? YES....have a I done anything about it....YES.....But has it been successful NO NO NO....

So please join me on this new adventure.....starting tomorrow NO RIGHT NOW - I need to change my lifestyle. I am an emotional eater. I will eat when I am stressed or bored. Late evening is really hard when I am waiting for the teen to come home. I find excuses not to exercise. I do walk with my neighbor most nights but need more.

Looking for help and advice on how to be a healthier and happier me. Also looking for friends. Of my close friends I am the only one who is battling a weight/health issue and as much as they love me they don't understand.

I will end this with HI, MY NAME IS LINDA WHAT IS YOURS?

Thanks

Hi Linda! Welcome to W.I.S.H.!!!!

I think you will find that keeping the journal is VERY helpful! ::yes:: It really does help you make a ton of new friends and also helps motivate you and keep you accountable.

Are you doing any sort of plan? I'm not on any set plan like Weight Watchers or Atkins. I'm just trying to eat healthy, balanced meals and keep the calories at around 1200 a day. Also getting daily exercise. I too have been in physical therapy, mine for my back though so I have a whole set of exercises I have to do every day if I want it to get better. Sometimes I skip them and boy do I feel it!

Best of luck to you in reaching your goals! :)

Linda, welcome to the WISH Journal board! You won't find a nicer, more supportive bunch of people anywhere!

Getting myself motivated to exercise is not easy! On the main WISH board, Rae Ann started an August exercise challenge that has helped me a lot! I pledged to do 1000 minutes of exercise during the month of August - that works out to about 32 minutes a day. When I'm feeling lazy, I remind myself that to make my goal, I've gotta get those minutes in! :p Feel free to set a lower goal, like maybe 500 minutes, and join the August exercise challenge!

It is true that getting started is the hardest part of exercise. Once I've gotten started I usually enjoy it and I feel terrific afterward! Exercising releases endorphins into your body - they are your own "feel good" hormones that lift your mood naturally. If you're feeling a little down or stressed, a walk may be just the ticket to help you feel better.

Enough from me! I've gotten awfully wordy! :p

Wishing you a wonderful day! :sunny:

Thanks for the support and replies!!

Ok so today is the first full day of a new life for me. I am sitting here drinking my coffee which has steamed skim milk and sugar free vanilla syrup in it........sort of a fake vanilla latte YUM

Can't decide whether I should exercise in the am or the evening. Both have its pros and cons. Once the school session starts and the subbing phone calls start I would have to start exercising at 5am...YIKES But the evening would not be consistent because of the nights I am scheduled to work at the Disney Store. hmmmmmmm this is a pretty good excuse to stall starting my exercise. OK OK when I am done writing here I will go do some of them before I hit the shower :):).

I live in the Chicago area and it is 58 degrees here at 9:30am in the middle of August!! Double Yikes!! Going to the Cubs game tonight and will probably freeze some calories off. Hey, that could be a new diet - freezing your fat off.....:bounce: :bounce:

Have to meet my mother, mother in law and DD for early lunch at 11:30 so holding off breakfast (maybe I will have a small yogurt with some fresh blueberries) and doing the breakfast/lunch combo. Should be a stressful lunch - my mother and I are not close (never have been - she taught what not to do and say as a mother) and most comments that come out of her mouth directed towards me or my family are negative. She is one of the reasons I emotionally eat. SIGH!! Mother in law is a nice lady.....

Ok this restaurant has wonderful Chicken with Matzo Ball soup....which I was thinking I could have and just eat half the Matzo Ball and a side salad.......

Wish me luck

Off to exercise grrrrrrrrrrrrr

  :earsgirl:

Good for you, Linda!! I hope you enjoy that exercise once you get started! I promise it will help!! :sunny:

Well gang.........

Did my abs exercises and one of the knees.......need to do more.....

As for a diet.......I am not following a set one.......but I am watching my carbs intake - trying to lower that.......Really just trying not to eat white or sugar.......and the most important thing SMALLER PORTIONS.... I could eat a whole cow.....

So off to lunch........wish me luck

Thanks for all.

Good Afternoon!!

Survived my lunch with my mother. She was actually very subdued. Had 1/2 of my Matzo Ball soup and 1/2 of my Chopped Vegetable Salad. Took the other 1/2 home....Yeah for me.

Funny thing this afternoon. Took my oldest daughter to the county clerks office to register to vote. There was an Indian couple in front of us wanting a marriage license. The man had his birth certificate the woman was born in another country. The clerk is explaining that the woman needs a birth certificate from the country she was born in. The man kept saying he was going to go to a lawyer and have one made!!:hyper: :hyper:

Does that mean I could go and get one which says I am 10 years younger?:sunny:

Have a Disney day!!

Linda

Hello,

I justwanted to say WELCOME to the WISH JOURNALS! Great job at lunch today. Portion control is something I too struggle with. Keep up the great work.
Beth

Linda, it sounds like you did really well today! Good job!

I feel for you when you go back to work. Combining work with exercise is so hard. When I was working if I didn't make time for it first thing in the morning it didn't get done. It's better to exercise in the morning before you eat breakfast. You will burn fat more efficiently that way but whenever you can fit it in, it certainly isn't going to hurt you! Some have said they have trouble sleeping when they exercise at night so that's something to think about as well.

If you keep having days like this one you're going to reach your goals in no time! :)

Good Evening to all.......

Went to the Cubs game tonight. They beat the San Diego Padres...YEAH!! However froze myself to death. Can't believe it is the middle of August and 60 degrees with the wind blowing. This really inspires me to move to Florida.

Did not do as well this evening. I was not satisfied from lunch. So I ate a hot dog and a small italian beef sandwich and shared fries with my daughter. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Have to do better at control.

So the goal is to get up tomorrow and do some exercise. Maybe the treadmill.

Wish me luck

Sweet Disney dreams to all

Linda

Good Morning Everyone!!

Well the exercise did not go well this am - I overslept - did not set my alarm grrrrrrrrrrrrr... have to fit it in sometime today.

Off to the Cubs game again - had received two sets of tickets. They won last night. Froze to death and today does not seem much better. Right now it is 53 degrees brrrrrrrrrrrr with a high of 63 that is crazy for August.

Thinking at the ballpark of focusing on the italian beef just the meat and some peanuts. How does that sound?

Wish me luck

Linda

Hi Linda,

Good luck to you in your WISHing!

I'm very new here also, but it has been very encouraging.

Its been cold here too, (I live near Cincinnati, OH) and I'm a warm weather girl.

Hi Linda...welcome to WISH! You will find so much support here!

I always find the beginning of the diet to be the hardest. I am not on a set plan...I try to watch my fat intake..and cut back on carbs. But mostly like you said...white bread and sugar. Calories are the biggest for me and exercise. Once you figure out how to eat on your plan, it will make it easier when you go out to eat.

I am also a substitute teacher...school starts back on Aug. 30th here...so that will get in the way of my exercising. But since I've started this journey before school starts, it will help my eating when I go back! I find it helps to plan my meals each day.

Good luck to you!!

Gail

Good Evening to all

Hope you all had a warmer day than I did. How can one manage to sit outside at a ballgame in 60 degree weather with 2 rain delays and manage to get a sunburned face!!

Weather is definitely not cooperating in the Chicagoland area. This was the ballgame that would not end!! Game started at 1:20 and we did not leave until 6:45pm YIKES!!! Double YIKES!!

So no exercise was had at all except the calories burned trying to stay dry and warm:( :( :(

Just spoke with someone about Weight Watchers online which I have tried regular WW in the past and liked it but had a hard time attending meetings because life got in the way.

SB is good also but don't get alot support from my family - THEY WANT THEIR CARBS!!

So the current dilemna is what eating lifestyle to choose. Any input would be welcome.

Thanks to all
Have a Disney dream!!

Wanted to stop by and say hello and welcome to wish. Making the choice to start is the hardest next is the food lol. It will all come together, the first week is the roughest. So good luck and have a great day.

Kristin

When it rains...........it pours and I am no where near Charley!!

You have to laugh because if you don't you will cry and that takes too much energy.

This morning dd (16) was using a hair dryer in her room when sparks came flying out to the outlet......hmmmmmmmmmm not good. Called my husband and he said he would check it out.

Then 1/2 hour before I was suppose to leave for physical therapy I was running a load of laundry in the basement when all of a sudden the kitchen drain started to gurgle and a sewage smell came out. UGH. Went and checked the bathrooms.......sure enough the was sewage water backing up in the shower stall and bathtubs. GRRRRRRRRRRRRr

Called my husband who happened to be on his way home early from work because he was concerned about the outlet. So my hero is home rescuing us. Told me we have to go rent a sewer router. Sounds messy.

Going to work at the Disney Store tonight. Looks like the sale is going through soon (might be as early as October1). Can only imagine the impact on Cast Members. So sad because it is the only way many of us can touch the Magic!!

Haven't even thought about eating healthy. Had a protein bar for breakfast and a small plate of nachos using soy/flaxseed tortillas with a no sugar added ice cream bar. Oh well not too bad - could be worse.

Daughter is going back to college on Monday/Tuesday. She goes to Indiana University. Decided that I am going to use the weekend to research my eating lifestyle options and then start on Weds.

My other goal is to actually watch the pilates and yoga DVDS that have been sitting here collecting dust.

Hang in there with me.........better days are coming.:D :earsgirl:

Worked at the Disney Store this evening. Had a lot of guests asking if we knew anything about Hurricane Charley.

Keeping good thoughts and prayers for all in Florida. What devastation!!

On a happier note the sparking outlet has been fixed and the sewer has been routed out. YEAH for my husband!!

The bad news is that the sewer backing up is happening more often (once a year) so we really need to take the HUGE tree in the front yard out. Those are the roots that are attacking our drain. Always something!!

Tomorrow I will be working at the Disney Store again. And my 16 yr old has her very first job interview at Linens N Things. Keep your fingers crossed. She is very nervous.

As far as my eating lifestyle I am continuing to research. Have sent a few PM's to ask questions. Leaning towards the WW Online but am holding off until Weds after the older daughter goes off to college and life becomes alittle more normal around here (whatever normal means)

Thanks for listening to my ramblings.

Take care and Have a Disney Day!!

Linda
