my kids are 8, 6, 6, and we are wondering what other kids are doing for chores at that age.

right now they help us out with stuff that we ask them to do like setting the table and such, and they make their beds, and clean their rooms (when hounded), but we are thinking about a chore chart.

so what do your kids do/did your kids do at these ages?

Some of these are not everyday. I have it so they can check it off and if they do their chores all week with no prodding - they get a treat. If there is hounding, they lose privileges. This worked really well on the 3 older kids, btw. (All three are very responsible and are in college doing well.)

Copied from chore chart:

DD10
Tidy Living Room
Vacuum Living Room
Help Put Away Dishes
Empty Ice Trays
Make Unsweet Tea
Make Sweet Tea
Feed Dog
Feed Cats
Feed Fish
Put Away Clothes/Towels
Tidy Your Bedroom
Tidy Your Bathroom
Clean Your Bathroom
Change Sheets on Your Bed & DD6 Top Bunk

DD6

Put Away Dishes
Empty Trash Cans
Gather Dirty Clothes
Put Away Clothes
Tidy Your Bedroom
Tidy DD19 & DFD19 Bedroom (she plays in there a lot)
Put Away Any Toys Left Downstairs
Make Her Lunch (she won't eat school lunch)

At 8, very little. Set the table before dinner. Empty the trashcans around the house the night before garbage pickup. Clean his room.

At 6, only clean up after himself.

Now that they are 10 and 12, they do a whole lot to help around the house - but age 10 was really the point when the chore list grew for us...

They both need to clean their rooms. Besides that:

DD is 11, she unloads the dishwasher, takes care of the recycling and the compost, feeds the cats and does the litter box.

My DS is 9, he clears the table, scrapes plates and loads the dishwasher, feeds the dog and vacuums the living room.

We redo chores at the start of every school year. They do a bit more each year and get to switch out their chores with each other at that time. We do not tie allowance to chores.
