Had blood taken June 6 - received the results yesterday.
Doc wants me to return for in thyroid Aug and for cholesterol in Oct.
My cholesterol # is 180 - he wants it at 150. Letter told me to redouble my efforts on diet, exercise and weight control. Another doc already told me not to loose anymore weight. DH & I think these suggestions are sent to everyone and they really havent looked at me or they would know I cannot loose anymore. Lost 45lbs in 2003 and been maintaining at goal.
Thyroid test suggests thyroid gland may be functioning a bit sluggishly and they want that retested in August

Did they say what they tyhroid #'s were?? Cholestrol doesn't sound that bad to me but I'm no dr. I can't remember what my total #'s were. They just checked mine and thyroid came out good at 1.5 or so. And total cholestrol was good but triglycerides were a little bit high.

Maybe get a 2nd opinion if you don't feel he is listening and trying to just say lose more weight.

First off --
Congratulations on the weight loss and maintaining it! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Would a call to the doc be something possible? I would think if the doc knows you that perhaps it might be just a bit of a discussion to iron out what fits you.

The new cholesterol figures around here are below 100! :earseek:
:confused3
Our neighbor is being held strictly to that as he has other medical issues. I don't know what my DH is being held to as some of the same medical issues are those that my DH is dealing with.

Perhaps the increas of exercise and change of eating is to see if the metabolism responds differently. Give a call to the office.

The doctor called me back a few days ago. He said my good cholesterol is 54 and he would like to see that lowered 10-20. He knows I cant loose any more but would still like me to make healthier choices. I agree - 2yrs ago my #s were 166 and 44 so I know its possible.
My older brother had a massive heart attack and triple bypass surgery done 2yrs ago. Our father died from heart disease. Doc is looking out for me.
He did say I didnt have to double my efforts, just not to slack on what Ive been doing. Some days its hard to get those 10,000 steps - hard to get in those 5 fruits/veggies. I'm in my late 40s and want to see many more yrs.
Doc wants thyroid retested in Aug, cholesterol in Oct so I will go get them done.
Thanks

Then it is good that you are making the effort. I am glad you recognize that you must do this as your family history dictates. Keep a close eye on yourself and ask about everything. That is what saved my DH's life and that of friends of ours in similar family situations.

You can do it!
