Well, I had to do it, make a choice. WDW or Disneyland Resort for my next trip...

But I finally made my CHOICE

Now I can start planning... way early, I know... but that's what I do. Dream about Disney all the time

Planning on things not to miss on this trip now... (and finding the right date to go)

Personally, if I could chose one over the other, I think I'd pick DL in a heartbeat. I've never been there and have ALWAYS wanted to go. Having lived in FL my whole life, I've been to WDW more times than I can count or even try to remember. The only reason I'm going to WDW this year is the great packages that are out there right now. I'm thinking I'll head to DL next year... hopefully...

Sonno,

I wish I could live so close to WDW... :thumbsup2

I guess the choice would be different for me too. Still. I'll be going to DL too... just 1 year later. :sunny:

What would others do and why? I am always interested, so please share your thoughts...

WDW is my pick always. We went to DL after many WDW trips and there just isn't as much in terms of parks or restaurants. (Disneyland is as good as the WDW Magic Kingdom though.)

I did my "once in a lifetime" DL trip finally last year. And yes, it was nice, but forever and ever after, my money goes to WDW - just way better IMHO. :thumbsup2

We live close enough to Disney World that we have been known to do weekend trips so we don't miss any days of work. For our 25th wedding anniversary, everyone just assumed we'd go to Disney World. Nope, planned to go to San Francisco. Then we changed to San Diego (warmer, we hope) and then I saw that it was cheaper to fly into LAX. And just what is near LA? Disneyland. We've never been so that's where we'll be on our 25th wedding anniversary.

and a very good choice!...

Thanks for all the reactions so far. I can only say I wish I could live so close to WDW (yes, it would be a reason to move, I am a Disney Addict).

I did choose WDW for next year, but DL will be next...

other reactions, thoughs or choices to be made. Please keep on sharing them.

DO you have small kids? We found DL so much easier to navigate (no busses!) and much more contained- we stayed IN the park at the Grand Californian- and I was so pleasantly surprised by the "same but different" of most rides. Space Mountain, Peter Pan, Storybook Canal, Buzz- were all so much better. We had a great time- and would return in a heartbeat if the airfare wasn't so much more!

Last Year DH had a business trip to LA so we decided to take the whole family and make a vacation of it...which of course included a stay at DL.
After becoming seasoned WDW travelers, DL was a bit of a dissapointment. I knew it would be smaller, and a bit different, but somehow it felt "less magical" as well. I can't put my finger on exactly what it was - but something was missing...that feeling that makes you want to bounce down Main Street to the tune of the banjos playing just wasn't there. And as for Califonia Adventure, it felt more like a Six Flags to me than something Disney Imagineers dreamed up. We had 3 full days there and 2 would have been more than enough.
I can't say that we didn't enjoy ourselves while we were there, because we did. But we have no plans to return.
I guess we're a WDW family for life! :earsboy: :earsgirl: princess: pirate:

Since it sounds like you're unable to make it to Disneyland before the 50th ends, I say enjoy your trip to WDW, but make sure that you make that Disneyland trip. However, if it's at all possible to go during the 50th, do so. I love Disney World, but my favorite park will always be Disneyland. I love the charm and intimacy of the only theme park in the world where Walt Disney walked. His influence is seen and felt in so many little details. What Disneyland may lack in size, it makes up for in so many different ways. I like Main Street much better in DL. MK doesn't have the turn of the century feel to it. It's almost too big.

The other thing is that for some reason that I can't really figure out, Disneyland often has the more detailed version of a ride that is in both parks. This is especially true on POTC and Small World. I don't know if it's because the DL versions are the original ones or what, but Fantasyland and ToonTown are also radically different experiences at DL due to a lot more attractions and better versions(with the exception of Snow White which is slightly more detailed at MK).

Please note that I don't disagree with your decision either. I'm not sure that you can make a bad decision when it comes to visiting Disney. I just want to encourage you to make sure you make that trip to Disneyland. That's where it all began. After all, it's Walt's home park, and no other Disney park can claim that no matter how wonderful and grand they all are. If not for Disneyland, there would be no Disney World.

One last note. Do not expect the same feeling of wonder and charm at DCA. It showcases the personal touch of a company that strayed from what Walt would have done, and is now seeing that people don't visit Disney for cheap rides, but instead visit Disney because it's Disney. DCA is finally working on having the right feel throughout the park instead of on a few attractions.

And I cannot agree more... I will visit the park. As a Disney fanatic (some people say it is a "little" to much and there other things in the world - are there?), I will have to see the park where it all began at least once...

At this time it looks like 2008 will be the year I will see it...

I also plan to see the Disney resort in Tokyo and Hong Kong one day. But that is for a future without dates at this time...
