We're looking for a hotel on I drive for 3 nights before we transfer to WDW. At the moment we are looking at Best Western Movieland, Sheraton Studio City and Wyndham Orlando Resort.:confused3

Can anyone recommend one of these, or if not suggest a suitable alternative.

We are not worried about a pool - we want somewhere clean, hygenic, moderate or deluxe standard and near the action of I drive

Wyndham Orlando Resort is definitely near the action - that is what I hated about this place.

It is just about impossible to get on ID from here. - you can go out the back exit much quicker.

When are you going? We got a great rate at the Peabody during the convention off season during the hotter months.

Through Hotwire we paid $79.00 per night.

This hotel was GREAT. Located on I-Drive, directly across the street from OC Convention Center.

Didn't like Wyndam as much as we liked Sheraton Studio City. We always bid on priceline. Have won both the Sheraton Studio City and Wyndam through them. All their 3* are good in the Universal area. I have stayed at all of them. Usually about 50-60 a night. The other 3 are Doubletree Universal, Doubletree Castle, and Crowne Plaza Universal. So if you want to take a chance you can save some $$$. None of these are to far off of I Drive.

Thanks, I'll look at the others you suggested. Not heard of priceline - is it a US booking site - we'll be coming from the UK

September 2008. Not heard of hotwire - we're coming from the UK - could we book through them?

Thanks

We'll be doing a fair bit of driving so the tip about access is really helpful

Hi Benchley,

I'm from Ireland I used Hotwire for my hotel booking this year. I got my chosen hotel for $49 per night for 14 nights. Considering after we had booked, we saw that the "rack rate" was approx $113 min per night, I think we got a great deal!!!

Basically the way it works is you input the days you want to stay in a hotel and the general area you are staying in. It then gives you options in the area, no hotel names, you find this out after you book. You get an idea of the hotel from the amenities on offer and the tripadvisor rating. We did extremely well out of this as the dollar is very favourable towards the Euro at the moment and I know its' the same for STG.

After getting my booking confirmation, I checked what the rate would have been with our local travel agent and was quoted a price twice what I paid.

I love hotwire because I can use my paypal account too!

I would go for the Sheraton myself. The wyndham was too close to the main road for me and the Best Western didn't look great.

I looked up the 3 hotels you mentioned on TripAdvisor & the Best Western Movieland gets the best reviews of the 3. I've never stayed in any of them, so I don't have firsthand knowledge. Here's the reviews in case you want to read them:

PS: The Peabody is a wonderful hotel, & $79 is a great rate. You may want to book something that can be cancelled & try to get the Peabody, when your trip gets closer.

Thanks for doing all that work - will check them out - I'll also look at the Peabody
