I know that some are bemoaning today's preteen's and teenagers....

Today I saw something that really lifted my heart.... and it just made me feel great.

I work with a team of 6th graders. One of my students a female, came into the history class shivering (granted she had on a t shirt and was probably warm at home) There was a male student that sat next to her.... I noticed her shivering (her sking was getting almost purple), and was ready to give her my fleece jacket to wear during class... a male student next to her noticed, willingly gave up his velour warm up jacket so she could wear it...

And in case you are wondering, its not a romantic thing... she wore it the remainder of the period, and she gave it back to him an hour later.

My school gives out "good deed awards" so I quickly printed one out for him... and gave it to him at lunch.

I was so pleasantly suprised!

Thanks for sharing that. It is nice to read something positive about kids that age for a change!

Most kids of that age are wonderful kids aren't they.

It is too bad that it is always the bad ones that get noticed.

Thanks for the nice story.:)

That was very nice of him. And you for recognizing it. :)

That was very sweet of him. I'm glad that you took the time to acknowledge it to him. I bet that will make a difference to him!

Thanks for sharing with us! It's so great to read something like this! After you watch the evening news you begin to think the worst about the world.

Sounds like that young man had some positive role models in his life. Kudos to him.

I like your idea on the good deeds awards. Learning that it's good to do somethig nice for someone else is a lesson that more kids need to learn

Oh, I just love that idea too! Of recognizing good deeds. I'm going to mention that to my daughter's teacher. We are in desperate need of a little motivation for the kids to be just a little kinder to one another.

What a great story! Thanks for sharing Cindy!:D

So does ours! Anyone can be nominated, staff included. The school principal mentions the good deed during morning exercises and the good-doer goes to the office to receive his or her Blue Ribbon. The principal takes a Polaroid of the recipient and the picture is placed in the cafeteria on the Wall of Fame.

Yes, our whole school, staff included can get good deed awards. These awards have the school mascot on them, and the staff fills them up for the students. Staff fills them out for staff... I've gotten one as well.

And then if you choose, these awards go into a raffle drawing every month for a prize.. students get certain things, and staff gets other things...

Wow--that's such a nice story! I love kids (and adults) who have good manners and show respect. His parents (and teachers:) ) should be proud!

A sweet story and a truly good deed. What a nice young man :)
