We will be buyin in at the end of this year with some money have set aside, in addition to our Tax return :) 200 pts at the AKV, wishing that they might have a nice cruise incentive for the wife and I for buying in... well see, but we are buying either way.

We are a family of 7, 5 children ages 4 - 12. Santa still visits our house every year, but in a hanful of years it won't be as special as it is now with the kids being young.

That being said,we would really love to start taking the family to Disney using our points durring Christmas. Just a 2 bdrm, but maybe a Grand Villa once.

Is this as difficult to get as it sounds to reserve, or am I reading too much into it ?

I go to wdw xmas week (sometimes including xmas eve/day and other years NYE) every year(at least the last 6 and 3 before that) and we always make reservations at our home resort at 11 months and have no problem(OKW). We di take DS there for xmas eve-day when he was 6 and Santa found us there-we drive and were able to bring little tree, presents and stockings-nice thing about DVC villas..lots of room). When he was 14-17 it was no problem wdw is a present. We have tried to move to another dvc last year (AKLV) but were not able..this year we tried again and were able to get 1 bd savannh view at jambo house at 7 months. I would definitely reserve at 11 months at your home resort and you should not have a problem.....you can try to change at 7 months if you want, but we love our home resort and have a great xmas at OKW.

Unfortunately, 200 points at AKV is not going to get you a GV at Christmas time for a week even if you bank one year and borrow the future year for three years worth of points. It would be very difficult to get another resort for that time at 7 months out. These weeks require you booking that stay exactly at 11 months out.

In 2011, Christmas week requires 850 points for a standard view GV and 918 points for a savanna view GV. It's 382 points for a standard view two bedroom and 485 points for a savanna view two bedroom.

Now if you move that trip to the first two weeks of Dec - the point requirement goes way down. And if you go the next two weeks (right before Christmas), it's a bit more, but still possible,

These are all at AKV.

I'm good with the week after, or maybe just the handful of days that we can do with the points we can use.

If you intend to go during Christmas week be prepared to call exactly 11 months out from date of arrival for your home resort, e.g., Jan 25 if arrival is Dec 25. If you do so you will most likely get what you want. If you wait until 10 1/2 months out to call, what you want may be gone.

We are going Dec 18-26th and we booked at 11months with no problem for a 2 bd standard at AKL. I tried changing at 7 months and could only get SSR and OKW in a 2bd for the entire time without booking some and waitlisting others. So we are now booked in a 2bd at OKW for a total of 345 points.

When we bought we bought in for 210 pts. What helped us be able to do the week we bought direct and got current use year points and since we planned on only going once a year for Christmas we had an extra 210 pts banked that we are able to carryover.

Definatly look at point charts and see what you can get for 200 points around the time you are going.

Also our kids are 10, 9, and 8 and they all still believe. I know my oldest is probably just playing along for mommys sake LOL. We go to WDW and that is their Christmas gift. They grew up knowing that Santa came and brought them gifts that Mommy and Daddy paid Santa to bring. I wasn't given the big guy all the credit LOL. They think we spend the $$ we would give Santa to go to WDW. Santa does bring them a stocking filled with little goodies and a WDW experiance. First year it was an invite and GC for BBB, last year it was invite-shirt-and GC for a pirate cruise and this year it will be an invite and something special for the Pirates Fireworks cruise. My kids love it. We ask every year WDW or presents and WDW wins each and every year!

We are a family of 7 (ages 16-26) and usually have one or two extras in tow. We stay in 2bdrm villas and it works out fine for us. Everytime we consider getting a gv, the kids let us know they would rather have concierge!
