chipolte - what are your favorites?

For all of you with the brown rice option available - is the brown rice all cilantro-ed too?

Anyone? Bueller?
I do know you can ask for plain white rice with no cilantro. My 2 year old DD was having a meltdown over seeing "salad" in her rice as it was being scooped and the lovely gal behind the counter turned to a rice steamer behind her and scooped out cilantro and oil free rice.
I however LOVE the cilantro rice and have made it at home with the copycat recipe from THIS collection with satisfying success

I LOVE Chipotle! :woohoo: Hubby and I go at least once a month. Here's my fave:

Steak Burrito bowl (with a tortilla on the side-best of both worlds!) with brown rice (that has the lime and cilantro) and pinto beans. I top it off with extra lettuce and extra cheese. I'm not a salsa eater, but I get lime juice and top it with that (yum!).
Hubby likes a barbacoa burrito with white rice and black beans with fajita veggies, lettuce, cheese, corn salsa, sour cream, guacamole.
Well, I know what I'm eating for lunch tomorrow!

Oooh, another cilantro thing person! :lmao: Isn't it annoying? And people don't get it - I get 'oh, yeah, it is a little soapy, but it's good! If you just try it with...' a lot. Like no, you don't understand. We can taste a thing you can not. Can't be helped and 'just a little' is like if I squirted 'just a little' dish soap all over your food. It really is vile.

I might go by the one next time and see what they have but it's apparently in the beans and salsas too and I'm a veg so no meat.

Not only is it soapy and metallic, it overwhelms everthing else in your dish!

Maybe you can get extra fajita veggies - it is peppers and onions and very yummy. I don't think it is in the beans, but am not sure. Are the beans cooked veg-friendly?

I just wish they had cilantro-free guac, too.....

I don't like spicy food at all, so it took me a while to get the right combination of items that work for me.

My usual is:
Burrito Bowl with
Pork Carnitas
Pinto Beans
Cilantro-Lime Rice (LOVE the rice)
Fresh Tomato Salsa (can be spicy sometimes)
Lettuce
Cheese
Sour Cream

I have the recipe for the Cilantro-Lime Rice, if anyone wants it. It's from Todd Wilbur's Top Secret Recipes book.

Love this place. I work four buildings down and go there every two weeks. I always get a chicken bowl with rice, chicken, fajita veggies, mild salsa, hot salsa, little sour cream, cheese and lettuce. Sometimes I will get chips and the green salsa

Don't forget they have a kids menu....took me the longest time to figure this out. It doesn't seem to be advertised very well.

LOVE Chipotle!! We just had one open within walking distance of my office so VERY excited!

My usual is:

Burrito Bowl
Chicken
White Rice w/ Cilantro
Black Beans
Corn Salsa
Tomato Salsa
Sour Cream
Shredded Cheese

I love it so much that I've never had the need/urge to order anything else!

That's a good point about the spiciness, especially of the meat. The only meat that's not too spicy for my younger children is the carnitas.
They can handle a little spiciness but the other meats on the menu are too much for them, especially the barbacoa.

there are vegetarian choices, you don't have to get meat. :)

That is how it is- the tomato salsa stuff is the mild and the corn is listed as medium. It even says it here- http://www.chipotle.com/en-US/menu/ingredients/ingredients.aspx on their website.

:thumbsup2

they didn't have a kids menu posted at our Chipotle until just about a year, year and a half ago. My girls used to get 4 tacos and they'd each eat 2.

DD12 likes spicy but she only eats the chicken at Chipotle. DD15 hates spicy but she always gets steak.

I'm sorry for those who have the cilantro "thing". It's one of my favorite herbs! DBF used to say "cilantro is the weed of herbs", I always said "only to those who can't eat it or don't know how to use it". lol He likes it now.....:) altho I guess he might just say that......LOL

Edited to add, I'm not sure about cilantro in the beans. Since I eat it I never really paid attention, it is possible you can ask for them without it tho.

Wow... I didn't know there was so many people on the board that loved Chipotle as much as I do..lol! For those who ever want to do any secret shops at Chipotle, I would suggest signing up at www.ardentservices.com . I have been working for them for almost a year now and love it! If fact it was the Disboards that got me into the whole secret shopping thing so I could save up for WDW. The reports seem long at first, but then get easier the more that your used to them. Also once the schedulers see how good of a job that your doing, they will let you pick up as many as you want. Since I live in a urban area, I usually do about 5-6 lunch/dinner visits a month. Feel free to ask me any questions if you have any as I love getting more people addicted to shopping :)

Oh I luuuurv Chipotle :) Mainly b/c it's on our list of "eating out without killing yourself" ;) We love Tex-Mex, but also need to try to limit our sat fat. While it's not low-cal per se (though it in in comparison to other tex-mex dishes), we've been astonished to find that you can get a Burrito bowl with chicken or carnitas, rice, beans, pico de gallo and corn salsa, and unlike our usual tex-mex glutt, skip the cheese and sour cream. You don't miss the dairy AT ALL. And this is coming from someone who typically has cheese coming out of her pores! I've gotten a few skeptics to try it and they're always so surprised by how savory and delicious it is without the added dairy fat. Chipotle is just that good.

If I'm feeling very naughty though, I get their chips and guacamole. They do something to their chips -- tastes like real lime and sea salt on them. Drool.

I am surprised by those of you who have cilantro issues with them. I've always had the same negative reaction to Cilantro (thought I don't know about it tasting soapy, more like skunk bomb in my mouth!), but I've never had that problem with their rice or pico :confused3

It's not an issue with them, specifically. I've never tried their stuff because of the cilantro.

It's a genetic issue where some people can taste an enzyme in the stuff most can't - like the paper test in high school chem, where you put a piece of paper on your tongue and most people taste nothing but paper, and a few tasted a horrible bitter thing.

I - and I'd guess Prose as well - can tell if a bit is hiding, blended into salsa, because it tastes like dish soap salsa. It's just overpowering soap. Whatever the enzyme in it is that does it, it's inescapable.

I didn't read all the responses so someone may have already said this - make use of the iPhone app or order online. The lines get LONG and move SLOW. For those who have the cilantro taste problem, do you have the same problem with other like herbs such as curly or italian parsley?

The rice always has oil in it. They put the oil on as they are scooping it out of the rice cookier, to help keep it separated. The liquid you see the workers putting on the rice is the lemon-lime juice.

When I first tried salsa about 25 years ago, in a Mexican place, I called over the manager and told him that I thought there was soap in it. He explained the cilantro. I kept eating it though, and now I love it. I think it's just a strange taste that you have to get used to. I no longer associate it with soap; it's just different.

Cilantro initially had that 'soapy' taste to me, while the parsleys did not. But now I like it.

We did the online order thing this week, for the first time, and when DH showed up to get it, they acted surprised, and everyone on the assembly line stopped what they were doing, and made up our 7 orders (DH was embarrassed, because people were standing in line, waiting for their orders). It was so nice to have the kids give me their orders, one by one, then standing in line, though.
