China, America, Iran and Vietnam

64% is still a very hefty majority. I'm not so sure that it is declining as much as leveling off. And, if a certain group was added to the list of those who could receive the death penalty, the support would go way up (predatory pedophiles for instance, especially violent ones), in my opinion.

The death penalty is useless. They get appeal after appeal after appeal for no good reason and the taxpayers have to fund it. It can take upwards of 20 years to get someone actually executed. IMO, it's a waste of money. It would be cheaper to just keep them in prison without letting them have appeal after appeal of their conviction. If they didn't get all those appeals, I'd be all for it, but as it stands, it's nothing but a waste of taxpayer money.

I am against it since a great deal of innocent people have been sent to death row. IMO, it's SICKENING that someone can receive the death penalty without a shred of DNA evidence or some hard evidence, other than circumstantial stuff. There was one guy who came within minutes of his execution, but got a stay and turned out her was innocent

Another guy in Chicago came within two days. It was a big story in Chicago. Some college students found out he was innocent. Sad that COLLEGE STUDENTS do a better job then the screwed up justice system in this country. Just makes you want to shake your head.

The other side of the coin, however, is that those who don't get the death penalty, for instance just life in prison, also appeal and appeal and appeal. Those numbers are never added in when it comes to looking at the "cost" of the death penalty.

That's a problem, too....unless they have some new evidence to present, they shouldn't be able to clog the courts with court-appointed lawyers. You're right, those numbers aren't taken into account. It would be interesting to know how long the appeals of lifers go on as opposed to dealth row inmates and how those costs match up.
